The place was nice. I’m don’t have anything bad to say. Just wish they would tell you the cost of parking before you book. And the place smells a little musty. My only complaints.

When I walked into the room ,I was not impressed . Beds looked old pillows were flat . Bed once you laid on it ,you could feel tge springs . Toilet was not flushing properly. I let the girl know the next morning and she did let me get another room. That room was better. The beds were more cushion and the restroom was working properly. Only thing I liked about it was that it was near the Riverwalk. I would not stay there again . Pictures are deceiving.

Quaint, historic hotel nestled just off the beaten path with great access to parking. Location gives impression of a slower pace but is only steps from hustle of downtown. Balcony access and common areas on each floor gave us alternative spaces for enjoying morning coffee and playing card games. Older details like the front double doors and remnants of the original elevator (you can picture the gate that likely was once there) add to the character of this place and really feel special.

Didn't get much sleep cuz the construction crew was vacuuming at my door at 1:30am!! And, when we went to tell the front desk the little girl said, oh they sometimes work till 5:30am. Like for real? Didn't get much sleep and should have been given some kind of compensation.

We got there at 2:50 and asked to check in. They told us $25 to check in early before 3:00, so we waited til 3:00 and then were told room wouldn’t be ready til about 3:15. Room wasn’t ready til 3:45. So we go from gonna be charged to check in early to room not being ready for close to an hour. Also last 2 times i stayed here the parking garage next door wouldn’t let me out when i scanned code at hotel and paid online. The garage tried to charge me again today when i left. The actual room however was very clean and nice once again.

The pictures online are VERY misleading. The SHARED balcony shown is nowhere near the river or the riverwalk. It's not so much historic as it is just old and run down. The balcony above us was completely rusted out and looked like it might fall down on us. Upon entering the lobby, I felt the urge to retreat and run away, but we were very tired and weary from the road. An immediate and overwhelming smell of acetone blasted me in the face and the lobby restroom was out of service. Not good signs. Only AFTER taking our money and AFTER we'd moved ALL of our luggage and effects up to our rooms did the staff tell us that the balconies were being painted and were off limits. Believe me when I say that without the (tremendously disappointing) balcony, there is absolutely no reason to consider staying here. The rooms are tiny, dirty, and in ill repair, and reek of chemicals and acetone. To cap it all off, the receipts they have us when we checked out, had OTHER PEOPLE'S credit card info on them. Avoid this place at all costs.

Water is cold at night. Better to shower in the morning. Parking was $60 for two days at a very cramped parking garage next door. Traffic is very loud at all hours. Homeless population are abundant in the area. My heart goes out to them but with my wife and children to look after, my guard is still up. Now the worrisome part. The room door doesn't shut all the way so we made it a point to shut it correctly and check it before leaving. When coming back to the hotel the 2nd night, our door was cracked open. After checking that no one was in the room, I wrote it off to staff picking up trash and/or linen and replacing towels. But the trash was still in the wastebasket, the used towels we're still stacked to the side, and the beds we're still unmade. Cleaning staff was on my floor but I did not want to approach them and have a confrontation. My question and concern is, if maintenance was not done in the room. Why were they in there? And if it wasn't staff, my questions and concerns increase substantially. It was one if the more affordable hotel rooms and close to everything we went for. It is a quaint hotel and we were able to get some rest. But the safety of my familtly is top priority and I did not feel comfortable the 2nd night of our stay.

It may be historic, but it is very outdated and in need of a refresh. Main entrance and hallways are very musty smelling. Room was not, which was a relief. Other than a fridge and microwave, no other amenities. Parking is a very tight squeeze and you better book mid-week or you’ll have to park next door in the parking garage.

I would describe the O’Brien as spiritually similar to a fine Parisian Bistro with the menu of a Waffle House. By all accounts, the hotel was quaint and pretty. Unfortunately, though, upon entering the room, that piquancy went from charming to trashy. A room that did not, in fairness, have any roaches, but in the words of my esteemed traveling companion, was “giving roaches.” The vent was visibly dusty, and the advertised jetted tub looked more like a SAW trap for my dermatologist than a luxurious spa experience. The service was pleasant if not a little dismissive, and the amenities as a whole were like a trustworthy politician; that is to say, nonexistent. Fan was cold though, so that was cool.

Great hotel within walking distance of Riverwalk. The room was comfortable and the staff was professional and welcoming. Keep in mind that the hotel parking pass will cost you $27/day, but that's still the best option compared to private and public parkings around. One issue was that the hotel didn't serve breakfast in the morning, only coffee (the hotel amenities listed on Expedia included free breakfast). The staff offered a credit voucher as compensation, and said they would update their information on Expedia.

The property is right I. The downtown area and it has comfortable beds. That is about it. The parking. Do not use this hotel if you have a truck. The parking lot is extremely small and you will be paying for parking that does not accommodate a truck at all. Compact cars only. We had to fold in the mirror just to go down the alley. The lock on the door broke. The hotel is “historical” but is not kept up at all. I work for a historical property. This is not how it is to be presented. Falling apart and old is not historical. Holes in walls not even covered up. Items held up with sticky tack.

I’ve stayed here before, but this past time was not up to par. The employees were nice and helpful, but the property is definitely a bit rundown. It had a leaky tub/shower, shower curtain was old. The bathmat in the bottom of the tub was disgusting, very dark and dingy throughout the room, the AC makes crazy noises, there is no storage space, the remote control did not work, the bathroom door did not shut properly, the hand soap dispenser was empty, There was hair on the floor in the bathroom and the hot and cold water was having a fist fight!!! I will not recommend staying here based on this visit

Also, of note there is no pool in case that’s important to you.

Staff was helpful in changing our room to get our 2 rooms closer together. I booked 2 rooms with balconies and the rooms were separated so we could not share our outdoor space. There were empty rooms between us and I thought they would have put us together originally. But they did correct this issue after we asked. The rooms were nice and were clean. The hotel had charm and was well maintained. We did have an issue of charges to our credit card that were not ours. The hotel said that they did not see these charges but they showed up on my card and were listed from the hotel. I was able to have this corrected by my credit card company but had to have my card changed because of fraud. Cannot understand how my card was used and charged to the hotel. Someone with access to my card number was responsible. This gave me an uncomfortable feeling about the security of the organization. Would not feel safe using this organization in the future.

Our stay at this hotel was extremely enjoyable. The front desk staff provided outstanding customer service, parking was convenient and reasonably priced, and the hotel's aesthetic was impressive. The balcony offered a lovely view of La Villita and the Tower of the Americas. The hotel's location is ideal for exploring the Riverwalk, with numerous shops and restaurants within walking distance. We valued the unique boutique hotel experience and the fact that it is locally owned and operated. The beds were very comfortable and the air conditioning was cool and refreshing, which is essential in Texas's hot and humid weather. We highly recommend this authentic San Antonio gem!!

We were here during Fiesta Week and La Villita was behind the hotel, which made it very helpful to enjoy the local foodfare and music excitement. Access to the Riverwalk was only steps away. The Riverwalk is a most wonderful walking path along the river with botanical plants everywhere and river barges which we enjoyed riding and hearing the history of San Antonio including Ben Milan and the beginning of a quest for a free Texas. The Riverwalk also has restaurants, and local entertainment , and an outdoor theater. The King William neighborhood is south of the O'Brien which offered another Fiesta Festival with street vendors and Foodfare. the San Antonio River is also accessible for a pleasant stroll. All along the Riverwalk are restaurants and The Guenther Restaurant and the view of their Flour Mill is open for a great breakfast,The restaurant is located in the King William neighborhood.

It had a little more street noise than expected. Truely not the fault of the establishment. Air conditioning worked great! Clean room and bathroom.

Before arriving, call and they will register your vehicle for the parking Navarro Street garage. Approx. $27 for parking. Park in garage adjacent to the hotel. You can pay through the QR code in the garage they posted on the walls, you'll see it or at the hotel. Paid a $50 refundable deposit for incidentals. Smalls snacks and drinks available for purchase at the front. Room was nice an cool. We had a fan and AC. Hotel has that old historic charm♡ The rest room had a jetted tub. It worked but didn't use it. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash were provided in refillable bottles attached to the shower wall and fairly nice fluffy towels. Room was nice, cool and comfy and had a microwave, mini fridge, ironing board and blow dryer. Beds were fine, not pillow top or anything. We loved that the room was right off the Riverwalk! We went walked the riverwalk to get to Legoland Discovery and it was about a 12 min walk and about the same walking to the Rainforest Café. Staff was great. We had a great stay and will be back♡

Parking was overpriced with nearby parking cheaper. In general the hotel is well-located but worn down. It has potential but needs updating

Parking wasn't avaliable due to internet outage bc they use parking garage next door. There were parking spots in rear of hotel that we were not offered and we had to pay extra for a space access the street. AC was great, balcony was cool. Staff was friendly and hotel was def eclectic!

To make matters worse, there was no iron available in the room, which is a basic amenity I expect when traveling. When I reached out to the staff for assistance, they were not attentive at all. Their attitude came across as dismissive and unhelpful, which only added to the frustration. As a point of comparison, I’ve stayed at Motel 6 locations that I would gladly rate 5 stars, which really highlights how poor this experience was. Overall, between the poor cleanliness, bad smell from the AC, lack of basic amenities, and unprofessional staff, I would not recommend staying here.

However, when I called from the train to notify the hotel staff that my train might be delayed, the person answering was confusing and said if I came in after 1 am my reservation might be canceled. Since I had prepaid, I was not pleased, plus I was talking about a delay that might get me in close to midnight not after 1 am. I walked into a freezing room, which I could manage, but there was not an extra blanket in the room. There is a lengthy list of potential charges for missing or damaged items that ran a full page which I have never seen before in decades of travel. At the same time there was not information on amenities, TV channels, etc. plus there was no tissue box in the room. To use the Netflix, a person had to use their personal account. Only free accounts were available to guests. I don’t travel with my passwords so this also was inconvenient. Although I liked the property, the location and some of the staff, I had a mixed reaction to my stay.

Parking was in a unsecured parking garage next to the property. AC did work in the room though. Please read the fine print there's a $50 security fee that wasn't on the main page when booking the room. Parking was $25/day which i was ok with.

Very basic, no breakfast, no place to fill up water bottles. Staff were ok but not very friendly. Rooms were very old and smelled musty. AC was old and incredibly noisy. Positive- is that it was very close to Riverwalk. Don't think I would stay here again.
