The Gunter Hotel, San Antonio Riverwalk, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel
About The Gunter Hotel, San Antonio Riverwalk, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel
The Gunter Hotel San Antonio Riverwalk, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel San Antonio is located in downtown San Antonio and across the street from the scenic San Antonio River Walk. After undergoing a $50 million renovation, the new iteration of the 116 year old hotel is modernized with new bathrooms, mid-century inspired fixtures, rich color palates and more. As a nod to Blues legend Robert Johnson, who recorded his first album at the hotel in 1936, each room is equipped with a record player and a copy of his first record. The hotel also features a vinyl library in the lobby that guests can take advantage of during their stay. This revitalization includes four new dining and bar concepts, a cutting-edge recording studio, and modern amenities while preserving the Gunter's rich heritage and historic significance. Guests can begin the day with a morning workout in the fitness center, or take a refreshing swim in the heated pool. For banquets and conferences, Gunter Hotel offers over 20,000 square-feet of meeting space. A unique 1920’s style barber shop is also available on-site. The Gunter Hotel, famously known as the center of everything, is less than a mile away from the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and across the street from the Majestic Theater.

Love love the record players in the room as well as the decor. Wish the sheets & pillowcases were higher quality. Otherwise, it was wonderful!

Amazing place to stay. Loved the record players in the rooms and the vinyl library to choose from. The Robert Johnson history was cool also.

All of it - getting to borrow a record and play in your room was amazing

Can’t recommend enough!!! The property, staff, location; everything was perfect! The speakeasy bar is amazing. Definitely staying there any time I’m in San Antonio.
- 3/5
Valet wasn’t there. I was told that was the only option, then was told I could park across the street for less . When I pulled up a valet told me to move while I was looking for a valet. Then after getting inside, the attendant told me I couldn’t check in. I was a little early but the guy who just took my bags disappeared so fast I couldn’t get my things in line to get my confirmation. When I asked the front desk they just said “ I don’t know where they go or take things go find them somewhere “. Room was nice. Well done. Bathroom is a little cramped but it’s a historic hotel it’s to be expected. Restaurant was understaffed and manager not really helpful either. I loved the hotel history, went downstairs and got a haircut- staff there was amazing and made everything worth it. I don’t think I’ll be staying there again however.

Beautiful hotel, excellent location. Bed was very comfortable and the pillows!! Hotels need to take note because need and pillows are the bedrock of a great stay at a hotel
- 5/5
Room was extremely well kept! Clean and inviting atmosphere. Helpful, respectful, and knowledgeable staff. The in-house bars were phenomenal and bar tenders were truly a joy! 10/10 would recommend a stay!

Hotel was nice, but booking.com put my entire family on a really bad spot the reservation never went through and we called booking.com costumer service for help, and your team was really rude and unprofessional, hanging up my phone calls not helping at all took so long to answered the phone calls, booking.com was terrible service

We needed to book four rooms for one night at the very last night due to VRBO doing us wrong once again. Gunter House came through in fantastic glory. All our family members were thrilled by the room and service and stated they would stay there again in the future. We will too.

The staff was welcoming, friendly, and always willing to help. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, and the overall experience exceeded our expectations. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. ❤️

Hidden jazz lounge was excellent.

The hotel was very nice and clean. The staff was so nice and friendly from the valet, to the front desk, to the bartenders at the speak easy. We really enjoyed staying at this hotel.

Really nice hotel with creative decor in a very cool historic part of San Antonio. Would stay here again.
- 5/5
Really cool place to stay. I love the vinyl record options and the record player in the rooms. The hotel is walking distance from The Alamo and the river walk. Plus some nice restaurants next door. We are definitely staying here next time we visit.

The place was immaculate! Gorgeous decor! Incredibly clean!

Very good place

Great place to stay, but dont take the valet parking here, there are too expensive and they did extra charge from my card silently and i figured out and got my money back, apart from that the hotel is great !
- 5/5
The recently renovated hotel is even better than before. The room had great character and a nice city view from the 8th floor. Check-in was smooth and very hospitable.

Breakfast was fabulous, and the service was unbelievable. The second morning we were there, the young lady remembered the type of toast each liked and had ordered the previous morning. She made quite a good impression. Can not think of anything.

Spacious room with comfortable mattresses and bedding. The staff were very warm and welcoming.

Everything was exceptional

- 5/5
The atmosphere was incredible and made for a pleasantly eclectic stay in downtown San Antonio.
- 5/5
It was a beautiful hotel. The lobby smelled great and I loved the decor/furniture. The Jots restaurant was equally beautiful. Our room was beautifully remodeled. I loved the smell and quality of the toiletries. My only complaint is that the mini fridge did not freeze very well. I had to freeze an ice pack for breastmilk since I was away from home.

Small bathroom but large room.
- 5/5
Excellent stay!!
- 5/5
Great location. Great atmosphere. Speakeasy. Record player in room. Room was very small and the bathroom sink was tiny - for one person. Not a lot of room between shower, toilet and sink.
- 5/5
Very good.

Our air conditioning was not working properly. Also, we had a leak coming from our ceiling. We were not happy with that

Nice room and wonderful area

Location They did not disclose the pool was closed. The pool was one of the reasons for my booking. When i found out the pool was closed they suggested we go to a different hotel and they would let us use their pool, which was very far and we would have to drive there. Very unprofessional for the amount of money it costs. Ridiculous. Wont be going back
- 5/5
The location overall was convenient. All the stores were within walking distance and the majestic theater was right across the street which made travel to the concert easy and simple. The building is historic and just walking through we couldn't help but admire the architecture. The front desk person even walked through "harry potter" door which gave it all a little whimsy.
- 5/5
Room was really spacious, beds were really soft. Love this hotel definitely would love to come back and stay here again.
- 1/5
Also the valet literally broke the rim on my car, added air to the tire and didn’t inform me of any damage or even adding air, until I mentioned my car app sensed low pressure. Waiting for valet manager to get back and review cam footage. The hallways smelled like sewers. Our fourth floor room had a direct view of the roof. The ‘hydration stations’ had unfiltered tasting water. Very thin walls. Low quality doors to rooms. Small elevators when hotel was busy there was a line.
- 2/5
They did not have carpeting in the room. The room has no chairs with backs, just a low chaise type lounge. The bathrrom sink is oversized and doesn’t give you enough room to comfortably sit on the toilet. The shower curtain was caught up and would not close all the way so the water was pouring into the bathroom floor. The curtain in the room was off the hooks on several hooks on the end. This type of hotel should have sundries, milk, soft drinks for sale at the front, they do not. The beds are on platforms and do not have box springs.
- 5/5
The vinyl record player and collection in the lobby was awesome!!
- 5/5
Really good Hotel I was surprised by the speakeasy really nice no need to go out drinking, close to everything and the breakfast was really good the only thing is that they didn’t have enough staff and the only waitress was running back and forth but very attentive good service as well.
- 5/5
Loved it!!! Great location, not far from river and restaurants very close. Awesome hidden jazz room , and the record player in your room was the best! Highly recommended. Thank me later!
- 5/5
One of the nicest most unique hotels ever. We normally don’t stay in hotels and go for an Airbnb but this checked all the boxes. Older vibe all around music and old architecture with all the new feel from the furniture, to the light fixtures, and all the great amenities. Only negative to even speak of, which is just the area not their fault, is paying $60 a night to park
- 5/5
Place is beautifully refurbished and it has gone back to much of its historic roots. Room and clean and quiet. Jots is a wonderful dining experience and the Bakery is to die for.
- 5/5
This hotel is a 10! So nice, so clean and the staff is wonderful!
- 4/5
We loved the vibe of the hotel, as well as the location. The front desk staff were very friendly. The housekeeping was not so great. I made requests for items (towels being one) and never received any of them. They also didn’t actually clean our room. They left dirty towels on the floor, hair in the sink, trash on the floor and didn’t wipe down the little dining table in the room that we ate on. If the housekeeping had been on top of it, our rating would have been much higher.
- 5/5
exceptional customer service, arrived early, staff was very courteous and stored our bags professionally until room was ready. n/a
- 5/5
Everything was amazing, the hotel, room, I will definitely come back.
- 5/5
Not enough electrical outlets near the bed
- 5/5
Beautiful lobby with modern decor. Loved the record player in the room. Would stay again!
- 5/5
Extremely cozy room, very comfy bed, the lotions and soaps smelled amazing and the record player in the room with a library Downstairs to choose from was a great touch! The only complaint I had was I wish one of the pillows was a little more firm for a side sleeper… I woke up with a crick in my neck. Otherwise stellar stay!
- 5/5
The room was very welcoming and clean.
- 3/5
Location, staff, decor It feels like highway robbery to pay that much for a one-night stay and you don’t even offer breakfast. You should learn from European hotels. They always offer the most delightful buffet breakfasts. They put your hotel to shame.
- 5/5
Hotel is across the street from the theater we were going to. Staff was great.
- 5/5
This is the perfect hotel to stay at while attending a concert at the majestic theatre.
- 5/5
We loved this hotel. Great room. Great staff. Great music in the "speak easy."
