The lobby smells great. The room... honestly had a strange smell to it. I couldn't tell if it was the air conditioning or if it smelled wet. The front desk staff was OK, but everyone there just seemed like nothing needed to be done quickly. When I checked in I waited a while before anyone came to the front desk. The pool is definitely worth it, but there were hardly ever towels stocked at the pool. The hotel bar and lobby is very beautiful, and your ability to be right on the river walk is 10/10 for convenience, but honestly, next time I will try somewhere else for that much money.

Overall this is a great hotel. The location is fantastic for getting to restaurants and attractions near the riverwalk. Most are within walking distance. You can walk out the back doors and you are standing on the riverwalk. Food at the on site restaurant is okay, nothing special. The food is very overpriced for what you get.The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful. The rooms are a little outdated and could use a refresh.

For the amount of money that we paid for a room per night this hotel is an absolute overpriced nightmare worn down furniture like you came out of a motel carpets weren’t clean bathtub and shower were mildewy.

I love staying at this hotel. Every room is a suite. It's so beautiful and it's right on the river. You open the door in the lobby and the river is right there. I love it.

Great location to access the Riverwalk. Staff were friendly and room was clean and quiet. Few things pool was very cloudy and smelled like fish which was disappointing, ice machine was broken on our floor. Overall had a good time.

Very polite staff, meal vouchers, excellent food, location to the river walk, spacious room. The room has the opportunity for a great view however it was clouded by windows that hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. The glass should be cleaned regularly when the room boasts a great view. The shower took a long time to get hot in the morning which was somewhat strange. Also the bathtub and shower area in general looked like something we would see in a run down hotel so that was somewhat strange to see.

The rooms were large an well kept. The best part for us was how quiet the room was.

Service is amazing

Staff was exceptionally attentive and pleasant. We stayed for our anniversary and they surprised us with a complimentary bottle of champagne and chocolates! Loved the little extras provided—bottles of water, bathrobes, etc. The hotel was well-situated on the riverwalk so a convenient walk to restaurants and attractions. The hotel pool had adequate, comfortable seating. Only improvements were could see included keeping pool towels better stocked as they ran out both days, better pool maintenance—the water was cloudy—and more attention to upkeep details—there were lots of unfinished details, some mold here and there, etc. Addressing those would elevate the experience significantly.

Pool area was clean, front desk staff was efficient and patient, the overall 5stars goes to the restaurant manager, I don’t recall her name but she was a black woman she handled us was grace and she was attentive.

Room was comfortable and spacious The only problem was our door card reader. We had to go down to the lobby to get our cards reprogrammed every day. 2nd Maintenance man on our last night out of 3 finally figured out it was the door reader that needed reprogramming and told us he would talk to management on compensation for the inconvenience of having to repeatedly go to front desk to reprogramming our key cards, but never heard anything about it and left early the next day 5:30am.

Location was amazing and close to everything

The pool area was supposed offer food and beverages and it didn’t have anyone staffed. That was very disappointing!

I like pretty much everything about this hotel.

The rooms had no external ventilation. After we showered the first time, everything stayed very humid and wet. Our towels could not dry, our swim suits could not dry, everything just remained damp. Make sure you understand there is a $59/day parking fee. This was not clear in my booking from Expedia and the hotel fees were higher than what was committed on my Expedia booking. They would not agree to my price booked through Expedia. The one positive, it was very close to everything on the Riverwalk.

The breakfast staff were great, food was delivered hot and the coffee was great. The room we had had very little hot water for showering, we finally had to call maintenance. Lots of kids and noise in the pool and it looked like the filter wasn't working well, I found lots of long hair floating in the water

Spacious living room and bedroom. Staff was so friendly. Valet staff is so helpful and efficient! Location on the riverwalk is awesome. Enjoyed a meal at the restaurant and drinks at the bar! Only complaint is the bathroom doors were wooden and were difficult to close.

Great location, right by the river walk. The room was very spacious with a living room. The restaurant with a reasonable menu for breakfast and for lunch. Good restaurants in the area. The staff extremely cordial. The bed sheets and towels a bit too worn out, needed some love….

I think for the price of the rooms, breakfast should have been included. The food prices were too expensive.

The staff during check in was rude and not very tentative. We were in the elevator before I realized she never told me the room number. Very short and not what you would expect from that level of hotel.

The location of this hotel was perfect on the Riverwalk, but not right in the heart of it, which was perfect for us-maybe a five minute walk to get to the centralized area on the Riverwalk. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable, the bar was great, although we did not eat at the Ambler, the food looked really good.

I was there for three days. Our room was never cleaned once. I also asked for fresh towels each day and never got them even though I was told “they’d be right up.” Elevator #3 had a broken 10th floor button so going to our floor was a hassle. Nice hotel, but lacked customer service.

We love staying at Hotel Contessa, plenty of space for our family of 5 and good access to the riverwalk. It smells so good when you walk in also 😊

Hotel lobby and bar were nice. Front desk was nice. Location was ok- end of riverwalk which was probably good for noise quality but a long walk to the restaurants and shops. Our bedroom was very small. No full length mirror. No room for clothes for two people. The door looked like it had been broken into at one point and never fixed. View was so so for being on the river.

City view room, not worth it because the architectural shape of the building allows other guests to see into window from hallway at night. Room was beautiful on the inside. The atmosphere was beautiful and it was great to take my elderly mother for her 72nd bday. River walk is very hott this time of year and handicapped accessibility is still difficult with not a lot of access to restrooms. The doorman hooked it up for mom’s birthday so make sure you mention if you have a special event happening, they sent us a $70 gift for no charge.

Lighting and or lighting fixtures did make main living area rather dark.

Spacious room, good location, nice staff. Our room had a connecting door to the next room, which transmitted quite some noise. Pool was rather small.

The hotel is located in a primer area of the River walk. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The facility start to show the age of some of the areas.

The bar closes too early 1030. No snacks or food after 10pm.

Hotel is beautiful, But careful staying here because they will continue to charge your credit card days after checking out. my credit card has been charged meanwhile the staff wont pick up the phone to answer and tell me why I’m continuously being charged.

Overall the hotel is really nice. My only complaint is the pool. I went twice and neither time was there any clean towels. The pool was VERY cloudy both days. Whoever is responsibly for the care of the pool is not doing their job.

Nice hotel and great location, but be careful with the card you leave on file. I experienced multiple unexpected charges and received different explanations from different staff members, which was frustrating and confusing. I ended up having to shut down my card and dispute charges with American Express. I recommend only leaving a card on file that you’re comfortable using if unexpected charges come up. Hopefully they improve their billing process and communication.

Nice and quiet location next to Riverwalk. Staff were friendly and beds were comfy. No microwave in room which was inconvenient for us. Parking is expensive but typical for the area.

We had an enjoyable stay from beginning to end. From the spa to the bar was an exceptional experience.

Showed up 2 hours after check in time and the room was not ready. We were told it would be another hours so we decided to go with a less desirable room option. Staff was not very accommodating. First time staying here but will not consider this hotel in the future.

We loved our weekend getaway at Hotel Contessa. The room was spacious and very quiet. We had a great view of the city and Riverwalk. The pool was relaxing and never overly crowded. Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great location for walking to restaurants and activities.

Everything was wonderful at this hotel. The only thing we didn’t like was the water pressure in the shower and the shower head too low for my husband.

So the hotel itself was great but what is not told to you until you get there is yes, you can pay the $59 for Valet and it does say it on the website but if you dont want the the valet, then you can't park on the premiseand you have to go find a parking garage and self park for $35-50 per night which is not an expected expense you think you have to do. You should really say this on your website. I didn't expect to pay another $105 for the 3 days we were there.

Great staff and location!

It's a great place to stay and the staff is great. The room was clean. There was a problem with the toilet not working properly, the bath tub drain was clogged and the safe box in the room was not working either. As soon as we called the front desk to report the issues, Maintenance responded within about 45 minutes to take care of all the issues. Maintenance was very professional and friendly. The Ambler restaurant has great delicious food and the cocktails are good too. We will definitely be back.

I disliked the shower has mold on tile not cleaned correctly, over shower head, the tub has rust on metals that are not placed and broken, the rust on corners of tub. The towels are old and ripped, so is curtain in shower/bath. Covers/sheets had stain spots. I had no option to cancel and change bc of time but This is something that affects the beauty of this hotel. Simple things to better.

We usually stay at a different hotel when we visit San Antonio but decided to try another option this time and couldn’t be happier. Valet parking is expensive but convenience and peace of mind are worth it. The hotel is beautiful, and the staff are the epitome of customer service. The pool area is nice, but the pool needs some elbow grease. We only got in the water one day because of the color of the water the rest of our stay. The spa staff are incredibly talented and personable. We will absolutely return to Hotel Contessa.

My friend and I made our way once we got there in late afternoon to the pool. No towels available and murky pool water with sediment on the steps. Although the pool says there is a bartender at 3pm on Fridays there was no-one. We called the restaurant downstairs and they said they would not bring anything to us due to staffing. We headed down to the bar later and immediately ordered two aperol spritzes, asked for two glasses of water and some guacamole, queso and chips. The female bartender made our cocktails-yet i found a fruit fly inside mine. She then had to be asked three times for water—and forgot yo even order our appetizer. As we patiently waited and then reminded her 20 minutes later—she brought out cold queso and grey/green guacamole. The room was not well cared for-and there were half eaten shrimp lying on the floor. I would never recommend this property to any of my friends or family.

Check-in was slow, and the staff didn’t seem to be in the best mood. They came across as a little rude. However, the room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. It’s also very easy to get to the River Walk from the hotel. One thing to keep in mind is the valet parking. At $60 per night, I found it to be very expensive, especially since there’s parking available directly across the street for only $24. Overall, despite the check-in experience, I would consider staying here again because of the convenient location, clean and spacious rooms, and easy access to the River Walk.

Very nice, updated room. I loved the decor. Appreciated the meal tickets. Staff was very nice always spoke to say hello in passing. Offered and stored my luggage at check out due to my later flight.,Also mentioned that he could get me a taxi to airport if needed for a better price. Mentioned that uber sometimes is higher on Mid afternoon Sundays.,

Just seemed quickly turned over and not so clean. The bedding is lackluster at best. Basically just three sheets as your top cover.

The place was nice. Good rooms. The pool is small and has drink menu laying around. But there is no bar and no drink service there.

I arrived at the hotel and needed to take a shower to get ready for a meeting that I had an hour and a half. There was no hot water in my room. I called down to the front desk three times with no answer the fourth time I got an answer and the young lady told me that they could come up to the room to fix it, but that it would be a minute because they were busy. I was told that they could let themselves in if I wanted to go to the meeting that I actually needed to shower for being that I had been traveling. I explained this to her. She told me it would be 10 minutes. I waited 25 minutes and still nothing. I packed up all of my things and went down to the lobby requested to speak to the manager who looked like she was disheveled. She told me that she could move me to another room, but it wouldn’t be the room that I had reserved it would be a double without the couch. I needed the living room space because my supervisor was also traveling and it gave us a space outside of sitting in a bedroom to work together. The restaurant was also dirty. There was food on the seat. I had to clean off myself there were water bottles on the floor, empty soda bottles sitting on planters at the entrance or the valley was there. There was trash as you walked up the ramp you could also hear all of the traffic from outside loud in the room on top of the fact that when I woke up in the morning, I woke up because the sun was beating in my face, there was no blackout curtains which make it nice especial

Muy mal todo. La habitación y los baños no estaban limpios. En el baño la ducha no regulaba bien la temperatura y ruido la tubería horrible. Parecía que se iba a caer la pared. Lo reporte y siguió igual. La verdad que no me gustó nada.

Very nice and clean room cleaning staff very pleasant and assisting. Layout and set up of the room makes it very easy to entertain guest. Pool area was clean and functional. Valet parking was both expedient and professional highly recommend this place again.

This is a beautiful and romantic hotel on the San Antonio Riverwalk. It couldn’t be better situated, unless you wanna be on the party side of the Riverwalk. You could go downstairs and be on the river in one minute, and then a five minute walk have every food option you want. Big rooms, big bathroom, lovely rooftop, swimming pool and spa area.

The only good service at this hotel was the valet parking.

The Contessa was a nice hotel, clean, and smelled good upon entry. The hotel also offered direct access to the riverwalk which was great! However, Please note that there is a 75$ per night incidental charge that I wasn’t aware of and there’s a 60$ plus tax a night valet parking fee. There is no public parking.

i booked this hotel because i traveled with my grandson and he loves to swim but to my disappointment the pool is very dirty the water is color green and he was not able to swim and enjoyed his stay .
