Reviews
The Magnolia Hotel in Dallas is a historic building with a convenient downtown location. Guests generally appreciate the spacious rooms and friendly staff, but there are consistent complaints about the outdated decor, poor air conditioning, and lack of amenities such as a restaurant or bar in the hotel.
- Convenient downtown location
- Friendly staff
- Outdated decor and furniture
- Poor air conditioning
- 2/5
Good location Needed updating. Bathroom seemed dingy and had tiles coming up. Lighting is awful.
- 3/5
Very aesthetic rooms in a historic building. The biggest concern was the air conditioning in the room. Being in the Texas heat it was very noticeable that the ac wasn’t cooling as good as the lobby or hallways.
- 5/5
Amazing rooms, spacious, clean. I stayed on the 24th floor and the views were so nice, especially during the night. Very friendly staff. They have laundromats and dryers so that's a huge + (they give you quarters if you don't have them but you gotta go buy your detergent, there is a CVS around the corner so it's not that bad).
- 1/5
This hotel needs to be updated really bad. Very outdated and not clean. Location is probably the best thing about it.
- 5/5
the place could have been a little bit cleaner
- 2/5
Front desk is okay. I understand it is a older building, but I wanted character not that much. The room was huge, but everything was old including the AC. We felt none, the room was very warm and noo one came to check it. The fire sprinkler in our bathroom above the tub was predominantly and left a rusty stain on the tub. We didn't even use it but we only stayed one night. The valet was the only good part. Friendly, quick and efficient workers.
- 3/5
Very old building. Everything inside was WELL used. Good spot if you just need to spend the night.
- 5/5
This is an amazing hotel to stay in. It was very historical and if you have a choice to upgrade your stay it’s worth it to have a full kitchen and the bedroom. It’s located in downtown Dallas.
- 5/5
Vintage feel ❤️
- 2/5
Loud air conditioning noises and no control over fan speed or temperature. Old system is installed but not working efficiently
- 3/5
It was pretty I guess Restaurant was closed, no breakfast in morning, valet area is ridiculously small
- 3/5
Pictures are clearly AI generated, and parking being $50/night you would definitely want the room to look as the pics shown on website! was on the 18th floor and some reason the air was not cold only cool than the carpet look like a little mildewed
- 3/5
I liked the nostalgia.
- 5/5
Staff was very friendly. Half the elevators do not work so the wait was crazy sometimes. No restaurant or way to get food after the cafe closes at 4.

Great stay. I was conflicted about staying in a hotel downtown, but the staff treated me great and I would book again at Magnolia.
- 4/5
This is a nice place but there are zero amenities. Our only real complaint was there was no hot water in the shower, lukewarm at best.
- 5/5
Nice cozy rooms
- 5/5
The Air Conditioner needs work. We stayed in the 14th floor and the AC just wasn’t quite good enough until 3 am. It was Humid until then
- 3.5/5
convenient Humid in room, musty aroma
- 3/5
Was a bit surprised to find out our room had no microwave, no safe,no iron, only 2 towels. The amenities are very sparce. Room service is upon request. The bathroom sink had a film of dirt that you could of planted a vegetable garden in it.
- 4/5
Everything was perfect except for the AC cooler. Even though I changed rooms and contacted Maintenance for assistance, the issue was still not resolved. Thank You
- 5/5
Always a pleasant stay when I need to go to Dallas. Right in the heart of downtown and has everything I need within walking distance. Always a great value for the money. Full kitchen with full size fridge is nice to have. Only negative is the parking situation being valet only but if you drive up the street a little bit there’s a $25 a night parking structure at 1600 Commerce Street
- 2/5
Rooms are pretty outdated. Staff was incredibly nice. Did encounter a homeless man that snuck his way up to our floor and was sitting across the hall from our room when we came back one afternoon. Staff removed him and apologized, but still.
- 1/5
No cool air conditioning
- 4/5
Very good
- 2/5
I did not like that the rooms would not get cool. Also, there’s a 50$ valet charge that I didn’t know about prior to booking. The valet takes a long time.

Very outdated. Lighting was horrible. Very dimly lit rooms. I did however enjoy the 4 windows.
- 3/5
Room seems outdated in comparison to online showings of rooms, a whole outlet in bedroom didn't work nor did the lamp which was a bit inconvenient. Broken picture frame in bathroom and a terrible patch job on the tile in the bathroom made us trip up a few times. Lights in the Kitchen took a bit to work as well.

The location is nice for events in downtown. The hotel has lost is luster and is dark and gloomy and the rooms needs to be upgraded. The bathroom has old toilets and cracked tile. It was nice to have a kitchen in the suite, although it did not feel like a suite.
- 3/5
The staff were not personable, didn’t seem to know a lot about the hotel, they had to step away to ask, homeless sitting in lobby areas, room was not clean, large trash under TV stand. Great location. Has potential for sure just needs improvement.
- 2/5
The staff Would not speak up when we asked if he can speak up a little bit more we can’t hear he just kept talking low. When asked again nothing. When entered in room it was hot in the room. when we left and came back it was still hot and sleeping was very uncomfortable since it was soo hot in there.
- 5/5
Loved the feel. It was overall a very clean and quiet stay. The area is perfect if you don’t have a car. Access to almost everything within mins . All the great food is right outside the door

Very good service! Was very pleased with the help

Property desperately in need of an upgrade but in the meantime they could make small maintenance improvements like fixing the blinds so they can open and close. They could also clean the windows. Worst I have ever seen in a hotel. You literally could not see through the haze. Also do not advertise a lobby bar when there is not an open lobby bar. Desk person at check in did bare minimum as far as greeting. The closing salutation was, “You’re good to go”. Pay the extra and go next door to a hotel that understands operations. I could go on and on. Just don’t do it.
- 3/5
Hotel was very easy to check into however the valet was a different story. As soon as we got there the first time, the valet was RUSHING my mother and i out of our car. they then took my mothers suitcase away and out of our sight without permission. that made us very uncomfortable. the stay it’s self went without any major issues. the sheets were definitely cheaper than what would be expected for such an expensive hotel. The valet again was the issue, when we checked out to leave, i scanned and called for my car, 25 mins later i get a text saying no one can retrieve my car and to go to the valet stand. the man working then tried to just hand me my keys WITHOUT MY CAR.
- 3/5
It's gotten pretty shabby and the only staff member we delt with basically ignored us.
- 1/5
The room had several issues as well. A large stain sat on the carpet outside the bathroom. Only one blind could be raised; the others had no mechanism to hold them up, once lowered, the one could never be lifted again. A plastic bag appeared to be covering either a smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector, and one of the towels had a significant hole in it. When I spoke with the manager, shebwent away and came back focused heavily on discussing a refund but never actually offered one. And so I'm clear not asked for. Instead, she gave me a list of emails and instructions, telling me to contact the third‑party booking service myself. No apology was offered for any part of the experience. She also offered instruction for me to contact the manager of the valet service versus handling that internally. This stay was meant to be a celebration clearly noted on my reservation, and I regret choosing this property.
- 5/5
I loved the view and how big the room was. The parking situation but it was to be expected.
- 5/5
This was our fourth stay here. We love staying in this area, always feel safe and close to restaurants and bars.
- 5/5
This was a great hotel. Perfect location with so many things to do in walking distance.
- 2/5
Several problems on 3 night trip. Had to change rooms 3 times. First did not have proper AC. Second had no bathtub (for disabled). Third one had broken tiles on bathroom floor. Reading lamp turned on ceiling lamp; hard to go to sleep. Then the key didn't work and had to wait until the morning for new key. At one point another guest opened our door; she had been assigned to our room before our checkout time.
- 3/5
Staff is awesome. It is an old hotel. The parking is a block away unless you find street parking. Valet is $48 nightly and the parking garage is $25 for all night. If you like the night life, it is close to The At&T district and a few bars. Take aways, beside no parking, is the homeless and small roaches. Other than that 👍
- 3/5
The hotel itself was nice. My room had a cricket in the bathroom, the towel had holes in it and they felt very stiff. One of the windows is ready to fall out in the main area. I had no issues with the hotel staff.

The 2 nights we stayed there room service never came to clean the room nor bring new towels. Parking is a bit pricey and kind of out the way if you want a cheaper option

The room was pretty warm despite the AC being on 55° the entire 3 days we stayed. The night time staff were kind of rude too. The valet guys were great, as was the person who checked us in the morning we got there. Cool building and location but I wouldn’t ever stay here again.

The location is honestly the only great thing. The furniture, the televisions are all at least 8-10 years old and the hardest most uncomfortable beds over ever slept in and I’m prior military so that should tell you something. The windows are single pane so you hear ALL of the street noise all night and it’s very loud. Everything is very dark and you can’t really tell what is clean. I definitely wouldn’t blame the staff, the ownership needs to invest in updates which would increase business.

The property has amazing history of being turned from a business building to a hospital. The room we stayed in was spacious with a nice view but the bed was a bit too small for room and there is no self parking near the property only valet as well as the shower pressure was lackluster. But overall the stay was great the staff were amazing.

Will be requesting a refund. Only stayed in the room for one night. There were cockroaches in my nightstand, little bugs in the shower, and the water didnt even get hot or WARM even. Gross hotel

Hotel entrance was pretty but the room needed some love. Toilet was extremely stained, caulking in some areas needed replacement, closet door hard to open. Room didnt have a coffee machine which in now day is very basic. But this is very well located for tourist attractions.

Great stay!
- 2/5
Rooms and lobby are old and outdated, no carts for luggage to be found, closest parking more blocks away than can carry luggage or felt safe to do, tv didn’t work, only given one face cloth, showing up at midnight proved to be a nightmare on a Friday night as all the club hoppers are out and about. Took an hour for us to get out of the congested traffic and the poor lonely valet to get us parked. Then our room being on the 21st floor you can still hear music blaring from traffic and cars racing and reving their engines at 1 am. Two thumbs down!!

I like it being in downtown, and you can walk to several different places. The building was unique and beautiful. What I didn’t like is that booking the hotel it doesn’t mention $100 deposit. Feel like it needs to stated when booking
- 2/5
The plumbing was in bad shape. As soon as my party walked into the room the first thing we heard was the toilet draining, and it continued to do so all weekend, until it backed up and then started to overflow and flood the bathroom. The water temperature was also completely erratic and the pressure was inconsistent as well. When we called down to ask the staff to come help/fix our plumbing issues, we heard nothing from them and checked out without assistance seeing any response from staff in the room.
- 3/5
Not enough staff and the hotel really seems to be dated.
- 3/5
There was only one elevator working
- 5/5
everything was amazing
- 3/5
If you book through a third party and you wanted this leave the hotel. The hotel won’t refund your money.
- 5/5
The staff so pleasant and helpful, the room was beautiful.I would definitely recommend anyone visiting definitely stay here.
- 5/5
It’s good todo está cerca

I stayed at the Downtown location. It was close proximity to many different style restaurants. A 10 minute walk to the Dallas Aquarium. Hotel room was quiet. The only negative was the channel section. Thank God for laptops!
- 5/5
Nice hotel and close to venues downtown. Love the deep soaking tub
- 5/5
Valet parking was great, all the staff we interacted with were very friendly. There’s ample area to lounge and get some drinks in the lobby. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We will definitely book our stay again when visiting the Dallas area.
- 5/5
In a good location downtown Dallas, walking close and near to foods and coffee and bars. Staff professional. Amenities excellent. Room was very nice, large and you don't hear anyone else. No street noise.
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Perfect location in downtown. The rooms were nice. There is only one microwave in the hotel and it is on the 25th floor. Aside from that, nice overall. Really enjoyed being able to pay for later checkout!
- 5/5
Excellent location
- 1/5
Not good. I had to ask for a different room on a different floor because the smell of weed was so bad. The first room had a layer of grime and was missing tiles in the bathroom. For parking, you have to chose between $45 daily valet or garage 1.5 blocks away (which includes walking by local unhoused folks who watch you a little too close for comfort). Laundry facility is only accessible via one of their elevators and is questionable. Pictures on Expedia are absolutely misleading.
- 3/5
Hotel property is old. AC system is old, bathrooms have old fittings, lift doesn’t have any security system (like the ones which work with your room key card). Also they didn’t have security cameras.
- 4/5
The hotel needs a little bit of renovations in some rooms. Our room needs some TLC it seems. Toilet paper holder broken, hole in sink. Hot water of the shower was not always working, floor creaking in a certain spot. Faucet of the shower barely had any pressure. Pros: complimentary water saved us, great staff and helpful form. Great location but that’s the only thing you’re paying for. Valet is extra and no pool. So it’s really about what needs need to be met.
- 5/5
No elevator, had to carry luggage down 13 flights of stairs. My wife in a formal gown, me in a suit. Terrible start
- 3/5
Basically have to valet park. Elevator did get stuck.
- 2/5
The room and bathroom were nice the hotel is just not what it used to be and doesn’t offer much for amenities. The room was in the worst location for trying to get a good nights sleep with the club right outside the window. One window is missing a black out blind and it was too bright all night long. Definitely will not be staying at this hotel again. Which is sad because it use to be a wonderful place to stay.

Hotel is in great location. Rooms were clean and staff was friendly. Only downside is it is very outdated and somewhat smelly like a grandma’s house who’s never updated her house since the time she moved in.

I love this hotel! The staff was outstanding, the hotel centrally located, the room exceptionally comfortable, and that oversized, deep bathtub was such a luxury for a bath lover like myself!

The room was clean and staff was friendly. Hotel was located centrally to all i was looking for.

Wouldn’t book again the pictures are not living up to what it actually looks like. It smells and made me itch. Had to check out same day.
- 1/5
Very disappointing stay. The hotel was extremely dirty and not properly maintained. It did not meet even basic cleanliness standards. I would not stay here again or recommend it to anyone.
- 1/5
I tried to contact the hotel to resolve the issue, but they informed me that my reservation was made through Expedia. I had to call back and forth for the entire 2 days to get this matter resolved. The hotel insisted that I speak to Expedia, while Expedia insisted that I talk to the hotel. It was an unacceptable situation, and I believe either the hotel or Expedia should take responsibility for this reservation. I am deeply disappointed and strongly advise other travelers to reconsider booking this hotel through Expedia.

The hotel is located perfectly downtown. Close to many things to do in walking distance & a short ride to a lot more places to visit. Our room was Huge! I was shocked we had an entire kitchen and large family room for only purchasing a one bedroom room. big or even bigger than an apartment. The room was clean with a large double sink bathroom w/ large tub & two TVs with actual stations & movies. We had a very nice stay & will return. Thank you

Staff was very nice, only complaints would be no useful amenities and the laundry room is kinda of scary

Just ok to rest, good location, nightmare elevators.

Beautiful hotel. Simple and modern. Room/bathroom were clean and spacious. Hotel and valet staff were friendly and very helpful. Hotel connected to Flying Horse Cafe. Hotel location was perfect, right across the AT&T plaza and Exchange Food Hall plus central to many nearby bars and restaurants. Will be definitely be staying here again!
- 4/5
Classic downtown Dallas landmark. Staff was very nice and helpful. Only complaints were the extremely slow elevators and archaic and useless thermostat in the room.
- 5/5
We were there a short time but it was a great place. Near restaurants
- 5/5
slight dip in the floor by the windows, but this is the only hotel I'll stay at, I always felt safe and at ease and the staff is amazing i was staying there for the enhypen concert!
- 5/5
It’s very nice and clean and is very spacious
- 2/5
I can't recommend the Magnolia. My room only had lukewarm water, the front desk twice forgot to send out my dry cleaning, and the cleaning person forgot to leave clean towels on one day of my stay. Only a few of the elevators are working which is problem around 9AM in morning when a lot of people are leaving. The carpeting in the hallways and rooms is old and needs to be replaced.
- 3/5
The valet staff was very good.
