Reviews
Guests generally enjoy their stay at the hotel, appreciating the friendly staff, rooftop bar, and location. However, some have issues with the gratuity policy, noise levels, and parking. The unique decor and spacious rooms are also frequently mentioned as positives.
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Unique decor and spacious rooms
- 20% gratuity added to all bills
- Noise levels, particularly from the rooftop bar and surrounding area

Everything was perfect except it was very difficult to find parking that we did not have to pay $40 for valet. The price of the room should cover parking on a weekend night. Please reserve more of the parking lot for canvas guests only. Other than that, it was great!

Okay... this is a nice Hotel, as advertised they had beautiful loft style rooms, contemporary art, accessories and modern style to match the vibe, staff was mostly cool and helpful. But!!!! The walls are paper thin. You can hear every couples quarrel every toilet flush, every I pad held by some kid watching bluey. The last night I was staying i had an early flight leaving for the airport at 4:30am, the other guest were shouting and partying louder than a times square movie theater. I called down to the front desk 4 separate times asking them to please manage the facility as my last call was at 2:30am much like a new York movie theater,... no sleep til Brooklyn

Love everyone energy and how peaceful safe it feels when i stay

Beautiful place to stay with great rooftop pool and bar!
- 3/5
It was very nice and clean. The staff were very friendly as well. I was told at check in that there was going to be a DJ at the pool, which was located on the roof, so I would hear music til around 1 am. I said that was fine I’m normally up late anyway. On Saturday night I got back late after a concert and I was going to bed around 2am when I started hearing what sounded like furniture being moved around on the roof. That lasted for a while. I was tired and wanted to sleep because I needed to be up early to travel back home on Sunday. That was very disruptive and it took a while before I could finally go to sleep.

Clean. Nice staff. Cool rooftop bar.
- 3/5
The room was amazing we loved the style, the swimming pool is beautiful but only 3 feet .9. We did not like eating at the restaurant down stairs, it took way too long to get menus and service and we waited really long for our ticket , our waitress was just on her phone , we kept trying to make eye contact and finally after a few minutes of watching her be on her phone we got up and took our tender and bill to her. It seemed that she did not care about the service she provided. We understood why once we paid. A 20% percent gratuity is automatically added, so no matter what service they provide they get the tip. I also had issued with how much they charge for pets. On the hotels.com app, when I booked it, it said they charge 50 per pet but then they messaged me and said that hotels.com had not updated the information and it was actually 100 per pet. I would verify amount first before staying here if you have fur babies.

Do not stay in room 301 we got bedbugs
- 5/5
Great staff, front desk team and the bartenders we're amazing.

Great location. Pool on the roof top was radical. Comfortable room. Stay on the 5th floor and the noise from the pool party didn’t bother me. It wasn’t too loud.

No complaints everything went as expected

We celebrated our daughter's 18th birthday. Everything and everyone was amazing!

Property was beautiful and well kept. We enjoyed drinks and appetizers poolside with the beautiful view of the Dallas skyline. All the staff were polite and friendly. We will definitely book a stay here again.

- 3/5
Pool and furniture was dirty, and deck was peeling. Furniture was worn out . Needs some maintenance. It was also quite far from downtown although we were expecting to be staying closer to the historic District as that’s where it showed up in our Expedia search. Our mistake for not double checking. This is a hotel that portrays itself as higher end. But it has some work to do.

I was very upset that I was not advised that there was a pool party scheduled for the day I scheduled. That is why we did reservation there to enjoy pool. We had a minor so was not able to attend pool and my daughter who was 21 went and did not like what she saw. Hallways were loud people yelling at all times . Very loud noises late in night . I wZ disappointed . The only think we liked was room and staff was very courteous .

Some folks may not be 100% comfortable with neighborhood street life but the police station is directly across the street. I had no problem walking around the area that seems to be moving upscale. The nearness to downtown is definitely a plus.
- 5/5
Loved it. Enviorment was great! Close to pretty much everything downtown. Vibes even with kids only things I would say is lobby has a weird smell other than that loved it.
- 5/5
Thank you

I was enjoying a solo staycation. The vintage layout of my room was superb. The staff ensured I had everything I needed while.enjoying my time. I visited both Chef's Palette, the property's restaurant, and the Rooftop Lounge, pool and bar, one word immaculate. The restaurant's layout was artistic and the food was great. The Rooftop Lounge, has the best scenic views as I enjoyed looking at the Dallas Skyline. The pool was great and clean. There was plenty of lounge area for guests to enjoy the FIFA games. I would highly recommend to others to visit Canvas Hotel Downtown. It will not disappoint.
- 5/5
This is a great boutique, intimate play a place to stay when in Dallas! The rooms were wonderfully decorated. The lobby area was so nice. The staff was very friendly. Pool area very small and hard to find seating, but we really weren't there for that purpose anyway.

Awesome!!

The staff was great and very helpful. Spent a lot of time on the rooftop bar.
- 5/5
Room was very clean
- 5/5
Such a quirky ecclectic hotel. We loved the vibe, the food and cocktails. The rooftop is a party!!
- 5/5
It was really clean and nice but kind of ghetto. There was a rooftop pool but there was a party and after party. I think cutting the parties at 7pm would be nice so the guest can enjoy the rooftop pool. That is the only reason why I booked it and wasn’t able to go. If you are in your 20’s I am sure it would be fun but I am 36 and just trying to chill on a Sunday evening!
- 3.5/5
Very cool, trend warehouse hotel. Lovely food Super boost in the evening- may have been that we stayed around July 4th but we were kept up all night by fireworks and people revving engines outside. The pool was also awfully dirty after pool parties up there on the Friday and Saturday evening.

I really wanted to love the Hotel but at 8 am there was a thunderstorm and the power went out. You would think for a $300 room they would have back up generators but no. Even the neighbors had power so we didn’t get much sleep one the AC cut out it was hot. No breakfast and the main reason we stayed here was to use the rooftop pool but couldn’t due to them closing at 8 pm so from check in you really are limited time. Overall I wish they refunded all of us partially for such a inconvenience. Again I’d love to go back but there’s no guarantee you’ll wake up with power.
- 5/5
Fantastic hotel - people, decor and building. The view from the rooftop bar at sunset is phenomenal
- 5/5
Fantastic hotel and brilliant location to experience and explore Dallas and Fort Worth. Roof top pool is amazing, spacious rooms and very helpful staff. Loved our stay here and Dallas was awesome.
- 3/5
Very nice hotel. However, the venue lost power for multiple hours. Our rooms were in darkness and the elevators did not work. My pregnant wife had to go up and down the Stairs. I completely understand it was out of their control but no compensation? The pool was also out of use for multiple hours each day due to events being held there. Our our final morning, a staff member barged into our room as we were getting ready without knocking. They apologized but nothing more. Location is fine. 10 min uber to most places worth seeing. Overall it was an okay stay. I wouldn’t stay again.
- 3/5
Pool was closed for private events 50% of the time
- 1.5/5
Free parking One of the beds sheets were not clean The unfinished aesthetic was not nice our ceiling was full of holes and was very depressing. The rooftop pool was nothing like the pictures. Much smaller. Abd the over priced slushy drinks were way too sweet and not tasty .

The rooftop pool is a must Check in is supposed to be at 3pm but they told us our room wasn’t ready and it took them until gone 5pm before it was ready for us. The reason given was the hotel was fully booked the day before. If that is the case I suggest you employ extra cleaners

Charming hotel with a fabulous rooftop pool that sits before the city skyline. Very spacious room and I loved the art deco refrigerator. We were there during FIFA madness and I don’t know if that had any bearing on this, but they did seem to be short staffed downstairs at the restaurant and bar. A fair amount of waiting at times. Nevertheless, a solid recommend.

Unique, good location
- 5/5
The hotel has a ton of character. I was told (have not verified) that it was an old factory and its definitely not a mass built motel 6. Very unique place. The room was clean and minimalist. The view was amazing. My wife and I used the pool which had the best view of the city. Pool is a little small. Great place for couples. Loved that I did not see or hear a single child.
- 5/5
Every was just superb
- 4/5
The property and staff were absolutely amazing! I will definitely be back! My only downside is that it’s in an extremely noisy area and there’s a lot of windows for you to hear every bit of activity going on outside.

Great hotel with large rooms and comfortable beds. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere so having a car would be best. I'd stay again, I thought it was great value. Super friendly staff.
- 3/5
Cute boutique hotel. However, the bathroom was not cleaned properly. In the morning, housekeeping was literally banging on my door at exactly 11 o'clock, yelling at me that it was Check Out time. I was in the bathroom and the maid was jiggling the front doorknob! Will not stay here again just based on that. Ridiculous!!!!
- 5/5
Eclectic, clean, friendly staff, rooftop pool with great vibes and views!

Everything about it,is my favorite hotel. Of course, the roof top.

Amazing hotel
- 5/5
My stay was great. Staff was super helpful and kind. Food from the in-house restaurant was solid. Rooftop pool was very nice. Only bit of feedback is the pillows and bed were lumpy and could deter me from returning. Oh also, The Opening Bell Coffee across the street is perfect for coffee.
- 5/5
The only issue was the echo inside the room, but we weren't in the room enough to be bothered by it. Overall, a very nice place to stay!
- 3/5
I was on the 5th floor over the weekend.. 6th floor is open to public dj and drinks. Drinks pricey $20 for a margarita.. but what sucked no sleep until 2am! Once the music stopped 😭 valet is $39 each time you use it. Movie rental was $31 for a movie I did not rent. Working with them to straighten out. Also was charged twice for room service. The hotel its self was super nice.. just be aware of the above avg pricing & review your charges.
- 2/5
Our biggest issue was the whole pool deck with its endless pool parties open to the public. We had no idea we would be subject to endless loud music coming from the rooftop (we were on the 4th floor of a 6 floor building) It went on until 3am Monday morning! Also the steady stream of scantly clad non hotel guest folk constantly in the lobby of the hotel heading up to the pool parties on the rooftop
- 5/5
Everything it was right out side the city but yet had a perfect rooftop view of the city as well as from our room the pool was amazing with a great view! Perfect for couples!!
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel loved the rooftop bar
- 5/5
Quick stay / comfortable bed
- 5/5
Great hotel to stay in! Clean, staff is friendly, there is a bar and breakfast!
- 5/5
Room and service was great. I do wish there was a hanger or something in bathroom to place the towel as well as a outlet in bathroom for blow dryer
- 5/5
Would stay again, maybe request a room toward west side (suite side) to limit traffic noise, but that was not to bad
- 5/5
The staff was amazing. The food was amazing. The rooftop bar was awesome.
- 5/5
Room was very clean
- 5/5
If you are here for work, they are extremely understanding and worked with me on getting checked in as well as checked out. The pool upstairs was slightly heated and it seemed there was a canvas style painting happening last night which I was a little too late to go to but it's okay. No hot tub or sauna. Perhaps a red light sauna could be installed quicker and more conveniently to us customers then a hot tub:-) Thank you overall, Canvas Hotel for being as Hospitable as y'all were. It certainly goes a long way and I look forward to my next day with you all :-)
- 5/5
The poolside was until a group of roudy youngish girls got there and decided to play their own music over the music played by the hotel outside. They were pretty ovnoxious and we almost talked to management but decided to just leave the pool. Wish someone would have come and asked them to be mindful of other guests. They ran off at least two other couple along with us.
- 5/5
Great rooftop pool and views!
- 2.5/5
We barely slept due to extremely loud banging through the halls and vent walls.
- 3/5
The place is ok, but it is at the level of a NYLO or an Aloft, not a $250 a night place that also has the nerve to add on a resort fee (also called a maintenance fee or something like that, we heard 2 stories). The pool is nice if you like people 6” from you and blaring music, but the rooms were super noisy so expect to hear everyone going to and from their rooms, and your neighbors activities.
- 4/5
We loved the rooftop area. The pool was either very busy or closed. We were not able to use it. Comfortable bed and nice shower.
- 2/5
The rooms were clean, very well kept and everything in the room was just as pictured on their website. The staff were very welcoming and friendly when checking in. The housekeeping staff was very kind and helpful as well. Our big complaint was the pool situation/pool party that was going on. When we checked in we were very excited to be able to enjoy the pool as we saw beautiful pictures of it on their site. The front desk attendants did let us know that there was a pool party going on which explained the crowded parking lot. We had to pay 40 dollars for valet just to be able to check in due to how crowded it was. When we went up to the rooftop we were really disappointed to see that there was no room at all for us to even sit by the pool or enter it. The pool party they had was open to everyone and anyone so it was disappointing that we as guests couldn’t enjoy the amenities included with our rooms. It was a group of six of us, we booked three rooms and paid $200+ for each one for one night so this was not the kind of experience we were hoping for. I understand that hotels sometimes host parties like that but there should be an area that is reserved for actual guests of the hotel so that they could still get use of the amenities they are paying for. We ended up having to leave and return back to our rooms due to the overcrowding. This was just not something we expected, we did not have children with us but if you are a family traveling I would not recommend booking here.

Hotel was awesome. Cool rooms and super clean. Bar was very nice and staff fabulous.
- 5/5
Really enjoyed the rooftop pool
- 5/5
Great stay, cool hip environment, laid back. Great for a vacation stay or business trip
- 5/5
The room was very comfortable and clean! I also really enjoyed that they have a pool table in the lobby and a great view from the rooftop! I also had a nicely made latte from the lobby bar. Oh! & parking is free!
- 5/5
Convenient location for the South Side Ballroom concert venue. Friendly staff, comfortable room, overall great stay.
- 2/5
The main complaint is that I reserved based upon the amenities that were NOT accessible. The pool and rooftop bar was closed for a private party. If I had known that, I would have stayed somewhere else. Don’t include an amenity that you are not going to honor.
- 5/5
The hotel is clean, the staff was friendly and effective. Cute eclectic place to stay with an awesome restaurant and rooftop pool bar. Highly recommend!
- 5/5
Cuisine was exquisite.
- 5/5
Rain didn’t allow us to use the pool but it looked good. This place is clean and comfortable, we loved it.
- 5/5
The staff were incredible! Fantastic stay - we'll be back!

Canvas Hotel was an excellent stay for us! Check-in was quick and easy. There is a small resort fee and deposit required at that time also. Our room was very nice! We got the Lifestyle Suite w/ 2 queen beds. Room was cool, clean and great decor! The view of downtown at night, was pretty from our windows. The beds were sectioned off by curtains and elevated with a big step. There are 2 huge tvs in the room - one in the bed area and one in living room area. We did have a microwave and refrigerator. Your key card has to be used to turn on your lights in the room and for elevator access. There are 2 restaurants to eat at, that i knew of. We ate dinner at the rooftop pool restaurant, which was great and the downtown view is definitely a sight to see from it! Food was good and we only waited maybe 5 mins for our food. The next morning we went to eat breakfast at the restaurant in hotel lobby. Food was delicious and coffee was one of the best I've had at a hotel, but we did have to wait quite a bit for almost everything. There were maybe 2 tables the whole time we were in there. The Southside Ballroom is less than a half block away, so that saved us from dealing with parking at venue. Parking at the hotel is self parking during the week, in the parking lot next to hotel. Staff was helpful and friendly too. Overall, an excellent stay and would definitely stay again! 👏✨️🏆💎
- 4/5
And door placement is awkward. )Vibe and comfort of room is great however. Not sure if it was a typical weekend when we were there, but there were many outside party (not hotel guests) parties so the rooftop lounge was unavailable. Small things like simple room amenities were unavailable (bring your own plates and plastic ware etc, if you have your own snacks). No microwave in room. It was clean and decor is very fun. Room was quiet, from outside noises at least where we were located
- 5/5
Very helpful and great food too.
- 1/5
The hotel turns into a full on club on the weekend which prevented us from using the rooftop pool or being able to park at the hotel without having to spend $39 additionally each night to valet. The drink glass had a baby cockroach on it and they automatically add d gratuity to the bill and do not tell you so you end up double tipping the bar. The loud music keeps you up until 2:00 am and the blackout curtains do not exist so tons of light and noise all night.
- 5/5
Had a wonderful stay, we came for a concert at the Southside ballroom which was also in walking distance! Highly recommend!
- 3/5
The property was very chic but didn’t feel as welcoming. Was greeted quickly, wasnt asked to be assisted or needed anything. My phone in my room didn’t work so I couldn’t call down to speak to anyone. When I ordered coffee thru the QR code which was easy to do. I never received it. When I checked out I had to tell them I never received my coffee and it seemed like an inconvenience. Just minor things but still makes a difference in enjoying the hotel experience
- 5/5
Complained because the AC did not work very well. The hotel is very accommodating and gave me a room, Credit. I’ll be back.
- 3/5
Actually like the hotel. Aesthetically it’s beautiful. The bed is very comfortable..The double bed room was very spacious. I will definitely book it again. The pool was not heated tho as advertised.
- 1/5
The pool was close for a party
