The Carpenter Hotel is a unique, boutique hotel in Austin with a cool, funky vibe. Guests appreciate the hotel's location, design, and friendly staff. The hotel's restaurant and coffee shop are also highly praised. However, some guests have issues with the room comfort and noise.
- Unique, cool design and vibe
- Great location near downtown and local attractions
- Room comfort issues (AC, mattress firmness)
- Noise from dogs barking and other guests

A perfect stay. Love the layout of hotel, pool and cafe. Would love to stay again.

The room was very small, I felt like I stayed in a college dorm room and that’s not a good thing, cement ceilings, brick wall and cement floors, the bed was so low to the ground and my back still hurts. There’s no microwave, no bucket for ice, no ice machine no vending machines. There’s a fridge but it’s full of drinks we didn’t touch. There weren’t even tissues in the bathroom. There’s no shower curtain it’s just open, for water to go all over the floor. For the price, I do not feel like I got my moneys worth at all. It was not worth it at all. Will not be going back. Friendly staff but the hotel was not what it seems online at all. Hallways are open to the outside so they are very hot. Not a pleasant experience.

Disappointing
- 3/5
Overall good hotel but the atmosphere was not as expected being way more family friendly than advertised. Couldn’t enjoy the pool because of many children splashing around all day.
- 5/5
Very sweet people and relaxing stay. Property is still beautiful but could use a refinishing in some structural aesthetics and wood trims around the property. Love the stay and will always stay here. It is a true austin experience because of its location.

I loved the vibes, the pool was awesome! So much greenery and it was tucked away in the heart of Austin! The rooms were nice and decorated well, there was an awesome selection of snacks and things to purchase in room! I loved the robe and the fact that we had a patio! I liked it all!

My wife absolutely loves plants, so this place was a dream for her. The beautiful gardens, red brick walls, open layout, spotless rooms, and incredible attention to detail immediately caught our attention. The café and cozy sitting areas were perfect for relaxing with a cup of coffee, and the whole place had a home, inviting vibe. By the end of our stay, my wife and the kids all agreed—this is the hotel we want to stay at every time we visit Austin.

Excellent place to stay, very comfortable. Close to downtown and Lady Bird lake.

We didn’t get to use to pool but it was a great stay. The location, staff, architecture was great! We were able to enjoy the unit even the ones near the dog day care. Parking was easy also.

Great spot!

We came to Austin to swim at Barton Springs Pool. The Carpenter Hotel felt linked to our destination and far, far away from the work at home. The tips of the Austin skyline above the giant pecans provided a soft and memorable "nightlight" glow in the room and after our brisk morning lap swim, brunch outside amongst the plants left us feeling quite fulfilled. The wall lamp needs fixing (room 418) but this was no big deal.

Bed was rather close to the floor. Chairs seemed shorter than normal as well
- 5/5
Wonderful property, nice pool, cool aesthetic.
- 5/5
Helpful staff. Clean room. Bar, restaurant and cafe come in clutch, both chill. Balcony is a must, awesome time staying here.
- 5/5
Very pretty! Felt like a resort in the heart of the city
- 4.5/5
Most importantly, the bed was comfortable and the room was dark and quiet. We loved how this hotel was designed and decorated, from the rooms to the common areas, restaurant and coffee shop. We also enjoyed the pool in the heat of an Austin summer. Parking on-site was expensive. We found off-site parking close by but a bit of a pain to deal with a car.

Amazing hotel in a great location. Super cool spot, very lovely staff. I will stay here always!!
- 5/5
Wonderful attention to detail, and the patio/pool area is like a little oasis. Also highly recommend brunch!
- 4/5
Loved our stay, as always. Pool was crowded and needed additional seating besides loungers.
- 5/5
I was here mostly for the saltwater pool, which is more of a lounger than a swimmer, and it was excellent. The room was comfortable and stylish and I was impressed by the HVAC system. It was very humid weather during my stay but my room never got damp and the air was always pleasant inside. Not easy to do in central Texas summer in the rain! The restaurant and bar were well-decorated with live plants and artwork. People commented on my trip photos saying “ok Wes Anderson!” which I thought was fun and accurate. I will definitely be back to stay again.

Incredible
- 4/5
It was a cute hotel but the actual accommodations tower was more university dorm than hotel. Also there was no security pass to the elevators which were open to the street and quite far from reception. Lastly - the fridge in the room was completely full of beverages for $$ - and when I moved them to try and fit in my own snacks - I ended up getting charged for drinks I never consumed. I phoned to have the charges reversed - but to date I haven’t seen the credit.
- 5/5
We had a parking problem the first night, we had requested parking but there was none when our plane was late so we had to park on the street. Otherwise, all was fine!
- 5/5
Kind staff and great pool!
- 5/5
Always love staying at the Carpenter hotel but unfortunately this visit I wasn’t feeling my best on this trip so I ended up staying in my room or at the pool - which and any other place would have been the downfall but between great room service and walk ability, it was quite the Haven.
- 5/5
Could not rave about this place enough. Was so gorgeous, the staff was incredible, and the decor was top notch. Loved that there was a cafe on site.
- 5/5
Loved the cans of water. Also very quiet room.
- 5/5
I fall more in love with this place with each stay.
- 1/5
We paid an amenity fee and there was no parking- as advertised and we didn’t even use the pool? Staff didn’t seem to care bc we booked with a “3rd party”
- 5/5
We completely enjoyed our stay!

Will ne back! Great location!

Clean and calm
- 5/5
10/10 every visit!

Delicious breakfast, great coffee and the best pool!
- 5/5
Hotel was amazing! A great walkable location. Super clean. Friendly staff. The onsite restaurant delish. Highly recommend.
- 5/5
Cute and cozy had everything I needed.

We (2 adults, 9-year-old, and 2-year-old) stayed at the Carpenter hotel for one night (Saturday-Sunday). We paid a small fee for early check in and they had our room ready with the requested pack n play when we arrived. Parking on site was very easy (received free parking for booking through Expedia). The hotel was very clean and had a cute boho chic vibe. The check-In person was very friendly. We used the cafe and the restaurant and both had excellent service, food, and drinks. We also used the pool, which was very nice! The room was functional, clean, and comfortable- bed was comfortable! The check-out times is at noon, which I thought was generous compared to other hotels. The location was perfect! Walkable to multiple restaurants, parks, and outdoor spaces. Highly recommend this hotel and plan to stay there next time we’re in Austin! The only con I can think of is that the bathroom only has a shower, so might be a deterrent for families with very young kids.
- 5/5
Such a great hotel, loved the pool and rooms. Staff was amazing and very well located too
- 5/5
This hotel was unique and absolutely a perfect place to stay. It was convenient to walking paths, had wonderful amenities, onsite coffee shop, close to great restaurants, and had the Austin vibe we were looking for.
- 5/5
The staff were better and best. Everyone we interacted with was helpful and kind.
- 5/5
The hotel is aesthetically just cool, location is great, on site coffee shop, restaurant and pool made the stay very convenient. Loved the ambiance of it all. Staff were friendly. Only downside is that I was working remotely during my stay and my room faced a doggy daycare and dogs were barking loudly from morning until late afternoon.
- 5/5
A great place to stay if you're going to the Palmer Events Center. It's just a 15 minute walk from the hotel with only one busy street to cross (South Lamar).
- 5/5
Lovely property so convenient to so many fun things to do! Very restful pool area and shaded places to rest and recharge
- 5/5
Great property. No in room coffee and. Cafe in the lobby had tasty coffee.
- 4/5
Be aware the rooms do feel a bit barebone, however I believe it is intentionally stylized that way. It is quite a different experience, since all the interior walls and floors are cement block and concrete! The onsite restaurant and coffee house are quite excellent, in fact the coffee house is quite popular with the general public, so it can be quite busy at times. Also , I was taken off guard by the $25 dollar a day "Destination Fee" but I guess I should have read the fine print.... All-in-all it was a unique and enjoyable experience in a very chill atmosphere, and I would highly recommend!
- 5/5
Awesome experience here in austin
- 4/5
Multiple days of additional charges of amenity fees and parking add up quick. Found out about the guest happy hour in the cafe on the second day of our trip, free glass of sparkling wine was nice. It was rainy and overcast for most of our trip so we couldn’t use the pool. Water seemed a bit chilly so it would be nice on a very warm day. No in room coffee. No fridge for personal food and beverage, just mini bar options. Deluxe king room was immediately behind dog daycare/boarding, could hear dogs barking the majority of time in the room even with the door shut and privacy wall engaged.
- 5/5
This place is a vibe. Clean, comfortable, quiet. Staff is lovely and goes above and beyond to make sure you are well taken care of.
- 5/5
The rooms were comfortable, spacious, clean, and well designed. The balcony had a great view of the pool and a bit of the city. It’s central to great shopping areas like South Congress, a walk away from Zilker Park and Lady Bird Lake Trail, and easy to rent a scooter to get around the city. Would 10/10 stay again!
- 4/5
It doesn't take much to please me, but no coffee until 7AM is a deal breaker, not even terrible room coffee. When it was ready, it was good. Everything else was very nice. Sadly for me, I'd love to go back, but "No coffee. No deal".
- 5/5
Always amazing!
- 5/5
I'd absolutely stay here again in a heartbeat! Every little detail, kind gesture from staff, food, and service - incredible!
- 4/5
Reminded me of a college dorm room. Comfortable bed and great shower. It had a balcony looking out over a dog training business.
- 5/5
It is always good to see Saylor at the front desk and Boulder at the parking garage at check in. I am always greeted with a friendly smile and a professional attitude. I appreciate the excellent service from all employees I come in contact with during my stay.
- 5/5
Staff was great!
- 4/5
Love the pet friendly, nice staff, great location. Not enthusiastic about the concrete rooms, but I did like the indoor-outdoor vibe, and the coffee downstairs was the best i've had in ages. Did not enjoy dogs barking in the morning from the doggy daycare just below the building.

Great location and food
- 5/5
clean room | smelled amazing in the lobby | shower was great | plus lots of goodies for purchase in the room.
- 5/5
Great staff, great location, comfortable room, nice amenities
- 4/5
Staff were great, vibe is cool, industrial. Bed was so comfy! Love the basket of snacks available for purchase in the room. Would not recommend for frail or elderly visitors - beds and chairs tend to be low, slope of shower and floor are a bit slippery. Overnight oats for breakfast and chai tea were both outstanding!
- 5/5
The overall vibe of the hotel is exactly what we were looking for. Comfortable and zero attitude.
- 5/5
Best hotel! Just stay here, you won’t regret it! Rooms are clean, modern, rad style, staff is amazing and friendly, love the food and coffee shop!

Great vibe. Retro theme with modern amenities. The spirit of the Austin vibe.
- 5/5
Great hotel. Friendly staff. Delicious food. Also, they gave me a pass to a local gym. I will definitely return!
- 5/5
Loved this place. Hip, quirky, funky, but first-class all the way. Staff is warm and friendly and eager to please. AND... My Hotels.com platinum status got me free parking (usually $35 a day).
- 5/5
Everything was awesome from check in to room to bar to dinner and then a major wonderful surprise Crory and the Boys playing in the courtyard at the Q-hut. Wow take me back to my college days in Austin. What a night! Thank you.
- 5/5
Everything start to finish amazing, friendly staff. Super clean and large space. Felt super comfy. They literally thought about everything! Definitely staying here again.
- 1/5
when i arrived they said they had no room for me due to plumbing issues and put me into a cheap motel. They did not give any refund. When i requested they said it was my fault for accepting the change (mind you i had travelled all day and arrived at night so felt i had no choice as they said there were no rooms available!! ). Terrible experience
- 5/5
Clean rooms, friendly front desk staff, lovely pool and great location!
- 5/5
Clean, great staff, great bar tenders and good vibe.

- 5/5
Interesting hotel with a kooky kind of vibe. Room was comfortable and enjoyed having a balcony
- 5/5
Cool hotel-clean, very quiet, perfect coffee shop and comfortable. Great location too! Close to Barton Springs
- 5/5
The staff was very kind and helpful, will definitely return next time in Austin!
- 1/5
Terrible staff
- 4/5
The staff are all really nice. The rooms are nicely done. The other issue I had was the parking. I got free parking through Expedia but the hotel charged me for it. I told the staff about it, she took it off. When I got home, they charged me again but more. I called to ask about the charge. She comped me again but not for the whole amount.
- 5/5
Pet friendly and friendly overall!
- 5/5
Friendly staff, good location, pet-friendly accommodations, and a great outdoor pool area and dining options - will definitely be back.
- 5/5
I loved my stay here! The staff made everything so easy when it comes to checkin, check out, parking, answering any questions, etc. The restaurant was fantastic along side the happy hour. The coffee was great alongside delicious pastries and breakfast tacos. The pool was nice and relaxing. Even near a busy street, the property remains quiet and calm. This place truly was an incredible stay and I would come back again.
