Alas, the South Congress Hotel’s last day was Sunday, May 31. Since we live in the neighborhood we enjoyed hanging out in the lobby, at the bar, at No Se Cafe, Maie Day and Manana over the years but it wasn’t until the Memorial Day weekend before The Standard takes over (June 1) that we finally stayed as guests. We enjoyed our staycation, hung out with drinks at the pool and got to experience SoCo as tourists. It was bittersweet but fun. We loaded up on some SoCo Hotel bling for old time’s sake — a coupla mugs, a nice woven throw blanket and a coupla really nice SoCo bathrobes. They’ll be good remembrances of our old stomping grounds. Long live the SoCo!

Good thing they are doing a renovation.
- 4.5/5
It was clean and quiet The first room I rented had a bathtub, but the second one did not.

We love South Congress so much. It’s our go to hotel in Austin. So sad to see it go!

This is a beautiful property and very good value. We booked a large suite at a good rate. The problem? Housekeeping. When we checked in our door had been left ajar, and this happened every single time housekeeping came. On two different days housekeeping never showed... when they did, they didn't refresh the towels. For two straight days we never received bath mats which were essential for the shower/tub set-up. The concierge was well meaning, but directed us to a taco stand that was closed without checking hours. When we originally emailed the concierge for recs, we never received a response. Very nice property, great value, but a lot of service issues.
- 5/5
The room has no fridge, only a mini-bar. I had to wolf down leftovers to not let them go to waste.
- 2/5
Very poor conditions of the property, I was appalled.
- 5/5
Parking is a fortune should validate for people staying at hotel
- 5/5
Very nice hotel! Very clean room and well stocked mini bar in the room. The lobby bar was a very fun casual place to hang out with very nice and friendly bartenders. And the front desk staff were very warm and helpful. I will definitely be back!

The location in SoCo avenue is fantastic, nice walks in the area and plenty of restaurants, bars and stores The shower pressure is too low

Shout out to Paris and Louis. Wish everyone at South Congress the best🙏

great stay…walkable to everything…shops, restaurants, coffee…super friendly staff, pool is great

Mostly good location and nice room Don’t clean room everyday for an expensive hotel seems rather odd to me. Water in the shower was like warm at best and nothing was done about it
- 5/5
Clean room, nice and friendly staff, convenient to shops and restaurants
- 3/5
Overall I give this an overpriced MEH.
- 4.5/5
Design and furniture were great and well considered. It felt independent the team were wonderful The really loud party was very loud as predicted but we’re looked after and given earplugs and an invite
- 2/5
No hot water, broken fixtures, broken shower. This property is poorly taken care of. There's little care for upkeep here - v disappointing for price point

Great

Great but shutting down so maybe attention to detail issue. But everyone was great.

Good location, friendly staff, nice pool A bit tired, maintenance issues with doors around the property, feels a bit bare . Rumor is that this hotel is closing and reopening under The Standard brand.

Great location and amenities.

The staff were truly amazing. So helpful and kind. The rooms were comfortable.
- 5/5
Great location. Hotel is modern chic with a young vibe. Bed was very comfortable. Good restaurants on property. Only complaint is the weird glass window in the shower that looks directly into the main room. Why?!

The first night was lovely. The second night was a nightmare. There was a wedding that kept me up half the night. When I called the desk, they initially apologized for the “raucous” party happening in the courtyard below me. They promised they would cut off the music by 10:00, then 10:30, then 11:00, and finally around 11:30 they said they were doing the “send-off” which apparently included sparklers. So I was lying in bed listening to 1) fights between guests and 2) guests expressing concerns about SETTING THE TREES ON FIRE WITH THE SPARKLERS. So, please don’t believe that the rooms are soundproofed as it says on the website.

It was great and the Monroe suite is amazing

Location, location, location! It's in a great spot with lots of shops and delicious food. Everyone at the hotel was so nice and helpful. Our first room had a great view, but the bathroom only had warm water. They moved us to an interior room and the water was hot in the bath and shower. Overall, a great spot for a long weekend.

- 5/5
Highly recommend love this hotel great location great amenities, fantastic!
- 3/5
The grounds are nice, but the rooms lack some basic bathroom amentities (i.e., q-tips, shower caps etc) and a true closet. The rooms are also not business-friendly. My internet went out during multiple calls, and there were only two useful outlets (one under the desk where the TV is, and one next to the bed) and no USB / USB-C ports. Didn't have a chance to use the gym or pool. Drip coffee served downstairs in the morning.
- 3/5
Room was clean and this was my husbands first stay here and I wanted him to love it. Unfortunately, we had no hot water on our first day-the coldest day Austin had seen-high of 55, with windchill at 36! We called the front Office, they sent an engineer and 30 minutes, replaced shower head?!?!? Obviously, that didn’t help. It was still freezing. The told us the next day they’d be moving us to a new room with hot water. The room was very nice and we did have hot water but we were only there 2 nights. So, it was a bummer. When we wanted to order room service, it was closed! Closed by 8 pm-and I had raved to my husband about the deviled eggs! So, needless to say, it wasn’t the great jaunt I thought it be.
- 3/5
Why they can’t have hot water at any point in our five day stay is embarrassing. Or refresh amenities without asking. Or leave hair on floors after cleaning. Or have missing trim on the floors. Been steady fans of South Congress for years and this has been the worst experience. And our last stay.
- 4/5
We love staying here. Restaurants and coffee shop are all great. The vibe is coo and location is perfect.
- 2.5/5
Amenities were not available. Live music until 11 pm
- 3/5
Cons: Room wasn’t ready for more than two hours after check in time. Hotel bar seems to frequently close for private events. Shower never got more than luke warm. Room had a funky mildew smell.
- 3/5
Shower had a clear window to the room. No blackout curtains. Water took a long time to get hot. Nightstand lamp constantly flickered like a strobe light. Women’s public restroom in lobby didn’t lock. Location was perfect.
- 5/5
Great hotel, very clean and comfortable. Would recommend.

Great hotel, very clean and comfortable. Would recommend.
- 5/5
Great place. Impeccable service. Friendly staff. Immaculate. Perfect location. Great vibe. Couldn’t ask more!
- 5/5
Cool loft like room, excellent bar, great staff, nice pool area.
- 2/5
Staff was great. Rooms are tired and worn. Floor buckles, tables peeling and scratched. Tiles broken in bathroom and toilet doesn’t flush right. Shower never got hot. This place needs a renovation badly. The shower has a window that goes into the bedroom area so if you wake up early for a work event, you blast the whole place with light. Also, the hotel had some sort of buy out by a company so on our second day all of the restaurants were closed in preparation for that. Would have been nice to know that before we booked. Felt like we weren’t supposed to be there.
- 5/5
Love the location, staff is super helpful and kind( appreciate our business ). Will def stay again!
- 4/5
Very nice staff.
- 5/5
Exceptional
- 3/5
The beds/pillows were a bit too soft and irritated our backs (and I’ve never had historical back problems!). It would’ve been great to have options to improve this I.e. mattress toppers, pillow variety, or changing rooms if there were newer beds available.
- 3/5
Everything was great. Not to happy to have to pay $30 a day for a fold out bed when the room advertised it sleep 3 people but only had one bed.
- 5/5
We loved this hotel. The location is unbeatable, within walking distance to everything. The staff was very kind and made us feel truly welcome. We were celebrating a birthday, and they placed a birthday card, some chocolates, and a bottle in the room. The hotel’s aesthetic and design are beautiful as well. There's also plenty of coffee shops, shops, restaurants in the area which is an always a plus. Parking was $45 a night -- which, given the location, we felt was fair. Some furniture does look a little worn out, but nothing major.

My wife and I have been going to this hotel since its inception. The staff is warm and helpful. The accommodations are great and we love the location.
- 5/5
Great location, helpful staff, quiet property, and great restaurant onsite. We would stay here again. Bonus to have a parking garage on the property.
- 5/5
Easy to park, great hospitality and friendly staff. Clean rooms, very stylish decor.
- 5/5
Wonderful experience I will definitely be staying here again next time i am in Austin.
- 5/5
I came to Austin for a one night trip to spread my father‘s ashes on his college campus that he loved so dearly. The hotel staff did not know this, but upgraded me upon my arrival to the Milton suite which was the most magnificent hotel room I’ve ever stayed in! It made my state that much more memorable and special.
- 5/5
Room was spacious and stylish. Great view of pool from large terrace. City street noise was not an issue from our position. Very friendly staff. Restaurant cafe was delicious. They do have self parking in the garage below but thought $45 dollars was a bit on the pricy side. There is paid street parking available that you can pay from your phone. The area is safe with lots of restaurants, shops, bars, all within walking distance. Even the walk to the river was within reach. We would definitely consider staying here again.
- 5/5
The parking was close to the entrance and the room was very comfortable.
- 3/5
Room was in good condition and the staff was friendly, except the bar tender.
- 5/5
Great staff and lobby!!
- 5/5
The staff was awesome!
- 5/5
loved location and room. can't beat it, the only thing would be to improve, water temp in shower was chilly esp with open door. thank you for having a cool bar to relax at and good coffee in the am. can't wait to visit again.
- 5/5
The entire experience was great! The staff are friendly and welcoming. The bar was comfortable, trendy, and had great specialty cocktails. The design and style of the lobby and rooms is warm and comfortable. We had a great stay!

- 5/5
I am giving the hotel five stars because the staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly. The public spaces of the property are very inviting and stylish. My room, a corner loft, was well appointed and quite clean. However, several things in the room require repair. For instance, one of the shower knobs continually fell off, one of the sink faucets significantly leaked when turned on, and one of the tv remotes was non-functional even after having the battery changed.
- 5/5
Beautiful modern hotel in the perfect Austin location! I was upgraded to a suite on the top floor with a pool view which was gorgeous, and the $40 credit to use was a great bonus. You’re within blocks of some of the most iconic spots on South Congress - highly recommend!
- 5/5
They told us we got a discount at a next door red and when we ask the restaurant told us wasn’t true…
- 5/5
amazing room. Great staff.
- 5/5
Everything excelent with this hotel. Comfortable beds, extra clean, nice decorated and very well located. Would stay again for sure
- 2/5
The lobby wasn’t well maintained. There were dirty napkins and lemon wedges on the floor, and it didn’t look like anyone was keeping up with basic cleaning. The couches in the lobby were so worn they had tears in the leather. I tried calling room service twice with no answer, so I had to go downstairs just to place an order. One of the front desk staff members also wasn’t very friendly, which didn’t help the experience. They did try to make up for the check-in issues by giving us three free drink tickets, which I appreciated, but it didn’t change the overall experience. The location was fine, but the room faced Congress Avenue and was loud. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was nice. Overall, the hotel feels worn down for the price, and I wouldn’t stay here again.
- 5/5
Great room and staff
- 5/5
The room was very nice
- 4/5
I did not know about my $40 credit, dosappounted i didnt get to use it!
- 2/5
Had to leave early because rooms on South Congress are so loud - terrible. nights sleep with cars speeding up and down all night long - I do not know why they do not offer sound proof windows, it is a shame. Great location, great-ish staff - the other negative is that the rooms are very dark. If we were able to sleep it would have been worth it, but we were up all night by the sounds of sirens and cars speeding outside our room. Unfortunate.
- 5/5
Beautiful decor, great location, and lovely team.
- 3/5
Dark, small rooms. Weird glass shower that is open to the bedroom , so not privacy in the bathroom.
- 5/5
Great staff , clean hotel
- 3/5
Room was to dark even with all the lights on. Not enough privacy in the shower. Anyone in the bedroom could catch you take a shower. Did not like the industrial (or whatever the look is they’re going for) look they seem to have going on. Had big problem with Maie Day restaurant, they managers seemed to be a little weak on the concern.
- 5/5
Property was excellent. The hotel was clean and well maintained. There was a great vibe around the hotel. Staff were super friendly and helpful. No complaints to be made at all.
- 5/5
I think some areas of the hotel need to be updated a bit, although I still really like this hotel and the location is amazing
- 5/5
Room and bathroom were huge!
- 5/5
the room and all general areas were extremely clean and well maintained! the staff was overly kind and helpful throughout our 3 night stay - on numerous occasions at random various times of day! we've been raving about them all day on our travels home and would definitely stay again in the future!
- 5/5
Amazing hotel right on South Congress! The staff was so friendly and incredibly helpful. The rooms are very comfortable, and we felt right at home. Very dog friendly as well. Parking was easy - valet or self park. Great location and easy walking to many shops/ restaurants/ etc. Highly recommend!
- 4/5
One caveat, what’s with the ice? Really missed having ice in the room.
- 5/5
We loved our time at South Congress Hotel and highly recommend them! The pool and pool bar were great to have some relaxation and the staff of the hotel made us feel like VIP’s!
- 5/5
Stayed at hotel with daughter for a concert. Staff very friendly and accommodating. They gave us great information on dining and shopping. Very attentive to my daughter and made sure she felt comfortable and welcomed. Super happy with overall service
- 5/5
Modern hotel with multiple food options. The staff was wonderful!
- 5/5
We love this hotel so much we’ve made it an annual tradition to stay when we visit Austin (a city with a LOT of great hotel options). This last visit exceeded our expectations in terms of the room and hospitality of the staff. I highly recommend staying here, especially if you would like to be within walking distance of great dining and shopping.
- 5/5
Great place for a staycation if you’re local. Enjoy the vibes of SoCo and east lake access for a walk.
- 2/5
The bar manager was very unprofessional and tried to intimidate me They also put me in a handicap room and it was very uncomfortable
- 1/5
Noisy you cannot sleep
- 4/5
Stylish and comfortable hotel. Almost too cool, the rooms have definite “mood lighting” and feel a little too dark to me! Nice pool, great bathroom.
- 2/5
I did not get the room I booked, a pool side room, but instead was told I was automatically given a complimentary upgrade. It sounded great to me until I realized it was the corner room overlooking and loud and busy street. I was told they were fully booked and unable to accommodate a room change until Saturday. On Saturday I wasn’t given enough time to decide or repack myself. Otherwise the pool staff, the bar staff and the housekeeping were highlights. I didn’t sleep much because of the road noise. I just wanted the room I booked.
- 5/5
Very comfortable stay. Checking in was easy, the area is a prime location for food, shopping, and fun, and is very walkable. I will definitely stay here again in the future.
- 1/5
Let’s start with the torn-up leather sofa in the Lobby and the temporary mobile AC. Upstairs the room overlooked an alley with dumpster, room was depressing and all night heard banging and bathroom drain gurgling. I wanted to go use the gym and it was the size of a coat closet, smelled of mold and drywall ceiling repairs were going on. Went to the pool and it looked like the size of a hot tub and that an out of control frat party happened the night before. Pool tiles smashed, missing and safety latter was collapsed and pulled up tiles and concrete! This was NOT the same boutique hotel as depicted in the photos online. I checked out that morning fleeing to a luxury hotel that made my trip to Austin enjoyable.
- 5/5
Enjoyed my stay, staff were amazing.
- 3/5
Had to move rooms because the AC couldn’t cool room. The second room wasn’t much better, as it never got below 72. Get better AC in the rooms, it’s Austin in July. Also, the rectangular toilets were super weird and hard to flush. The staff was lovely and did their best.
- 5/5
Excellent staff.
- 5/5
Love the location, rooms are clean and no funky smells. We changed rooms because the mattress wasn’t comfortable in the first room but the staff was very accommodating and there was zero issues changing rooms. Wish the bathroom lighting was a tiny bit brighter. Pool was lovely. Food at hotel was tasty, drinks potent.
- 5/5
Housekeeping was excellent. My only ask would be coffee in the rooms. Otherwise , wonderful property and stay
- 5/5
.
- 4/5
Good.
- 3/5
The bed was very soft
- 3/5
They charge you a daily fee for amenities (that they do not tell you about), do not clean the room while you are there, but on checkout day start knocking almost every 30 minutes starting at 8am - even though check out is at noon and you put out the do not disturb sign.
- 5/5
⸻ Had a great stay at the South Congress Hotel. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Loved the bar with its great selection and lively atmosphere. The common areas are very comfortable and perfect for lounging, working, or socializing. The gym is well equipped for a hotel, with Peloton bikes and fitness mirrors (I believe from Mirror or a similar brand), which was a nice touch. The pool has a relaxed, low-key vibe that we really enjoyed. Our room had a good balance of style and function. The only downside was the very dim lighting, which wasn’t ideal on a rainy Fourth of July weekend. Still, everything else more than made up for it. The location is fantastic, right in the heart of South Congress and within walking distance of great shops and restaurants. Highly recommend.
- 4/5
Wasn't given my reward credit, although had it in writing.front desk staff wouldn't honor it.gym facility is tiny and not much equipment.Treadmills run-down w/uneven tread.Room service ended @9pm unfortunately.expected more from such a hip area of South Congress in Austin.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel with great service. Location was perfect.
- 5/5
Liked the location. You can walk to bars and restaurants. The pool was nice but calk coming off in the tikes a bit. Great service everywhere. We had snack and drinks at the pool. Room were nice and comfy water pressure not strong in shower but nice to have the soaps and lotions. A little W&T but that is expected. Dt and the lake are a short ride away. Plenty of shopping and food/drinks to walk to. Again service was great everywhere!! Thank you?
- 5/5
friendly and fun, great travel advice. we needed some extra assistance and received it in plus! Andy at front desk was a delight Ashley at the bar was an alchemist making cocktails and made our evening a hoot! The young woman at the pool was great as well’
