Guests have expressed both satisfaction and dissatisfaction with their stays, often depending on the state of their assigned room. The staff is generally praised for their friendliness and helpfulness.
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Newly renovated rooms are spacious and clean
- Inconsistency in room quality due to ongoing renovations
- Outdated rooms may have issues such as broken fixtures, poor cleanliness, and strange smells

The hotel and the Western Horseman club were amazing. We met some family for a little visit, wish we would have had more time at the hotel. We will definitely be back!

Check in was perfect
- 5/5
Great hotel and amenities for the price. Beds were comfortable, room was clean, dinner at restaurant was excellent and complimentary breakfast was good. Definitely will stay here again.

This is far the best place to stay .I just love the staff and all the fun things to do never a dull moment !!!

Loud and a little smelly.
- 4/5
Good place to stay. I would recommend to someone in the area. Starting to show signs of wear and tear though and needs some maintenance. Our room had several issues
- 4/5
Western horseman. Atrium events. Doors need sealing. Carpet bars into bathroom need to be installed. Doors to back lot are locked. Currently inflated rates.
- 4.5/5
Inflated rates. Still needs to finish remodeling.

They don’t take cash

Its a very good place to stay especially if you have children and want to save a little money and travel time. Cactus cove offers several amenities, please refer to their website They have a verity of room accommodations. My husband and I stayed in room 606 that features a living room and separate bedroom. It is a basic living room with a sectional, good size smart TV, small fridge, freezer combo and a small counter with a little sink and a coffee maker. It also has a desk. The bedroom is bigger than most hotel bedrooms, also with a good size smart TV. A desk/counter, and nightstands on either side of average king size bed. I didn't wake up in pain, I also didn't wake up and say "hey that bed is really comfortable" either, so like I said average. The bathroom was quite small and needed some updating but served its purpose well. There is a good size closet across from the bathroom, with a ironing board. When we arrived there were several children in the pool. They were screaming, playing and having a great time as they should. Once we got in our room and shut the door you could no longer hear them. We don't mind children who are having fun but its nice not to hear children who are not having fun. There is a laundry room on the second floor by the elevator. We stayed here because the offered a living room with a separate bedroom for a fair price. I would have definitely brought my kids here. And would book again if we come back to Amarillo especially if we have the grand baby.

Breakfast was really good. Amenities were nice!
- 5/5
I love this hotel its great
- 1/5
So disappointing, disgusting, and not at all as marketed in the photos. Please do not stay here.
- 2/5
Bad experience. Mold in bathroom, shower rod broke. Ac barely worked. Extension cord for lights. Sockets didn't work
- 4/5
For a family from Florida, seeing a hotel designed for indoor entertainment was rather fresh. Nice pool, children's area and common gathering areas. The food at the restaurant wasn't all that great and the server consistently left us unattended and got our bill wrong (We saw others being attended to, so I do believe we just got a bad egg for a server. It wasn't the entire establishment). The breakfast buffet was good as well. The key code entry was unusual and the staff seemed to have problems getting our door to work properly, but ultimately they got it fixed. The people were friendly enough and so was the room.
- 5/5
Neat place! Loved the Atrium with the fountain and the heated pool
- 4/5
One night stop on a road trip to Arizona. Front desk staff was very friendly. Room very very large. It was clean and comfortable. It was very quiet!
- 4/5
We loved that this property wasn’t like your normal hotel. My daughter felt like she had walked back in time. She loved it! Beds were very comfortable, but the bathroom amenities needed a little help. Overall, a cool stay!
- 4/5

While not the newest of rooms, we love the quietness of the hotel at night, the helpful/friendly staff, fun restaurant and bar, hot breakfast. So many entertaining things provided for your kids within the building that you can vacation without leaving the building.
- 4/5
Good stay.
- 5/5
It was very nice. Definitely more of a family atmosphere but all in all a great experience.
- 5/5
Excellent family oriented stay
- 5/5
Everytime I go back home to Amarillo I stay at the same hotel I love there
- 5/5
Worked for our family.
- 3/5
Bathroom needed maintenance to the point that I feel the room shouldn’t have been used. Breakfast was bland.
- 5/5
right off I 40, restaurant bar attached with live music, great venue for kids
- 5/5
The bed was a bit firmer than I prefer BUT everything else made up for it. The rooms and all common areas were clean. Breakfast was basic but had a lot of good choices. Carl the dinosaur is fantastic! All employees we came in contact with were very friendly and informative. We loved every moment and will be back soon.
- 4/5
Bathroom faucet in the tub was loose. Mildew on the tile. Doors looked very old. The smell of chlorine was too strong throughout the lobby.
- 4/5
Fun activities and things to do-could be cleaner and arcade had a lot of machines that didn’t work.
- 4/5
I forgot to add, the outside door entrances are not secure. They have a code lock but it doesn't work to lock the door. Anyone is able to just turn the handle and enter.
- 5/5
Wonderful hotel, quiet, clean and fantastic options for breakfast!
- 5/5
Breakfast and dinner both were off the chart, and we will be back soon and recommend highly! TY
- 3/5
Pool was closed and the place was not as attractive as the pictures made it out to be. The restaurant was very good though.
- 5/5
This is a somewhat older property, but it was in good condition and the staff was very pleasant and professional. It is a great place for families as there are games, and a dinosaur at breakfast. It was quiet at night and the room was clean and spacious.
- 2/5
Totally catfished by the photos online. The rooms look very run down, landlord special type. Online I booked two QUEEN beds and ended up with two full beds (this pissed me off the most). It was not enough room for my party. The property was very run down too. Missing tiles, chipped paint, holes in tile flooring. $100+ for this place was enraging. Will not stay here again. Don’t recommend. They also put plug in fresheners in the room and the smell was way too over powering.
- 5/5
It’s a great, inexpensive option for Amarillo.
- 4/5
Clean room and all the amenities you would need
- 2/5
I may sound unfair because I think they’re renovating, but our room certainly did not appear like the photos. It was pretty beat up with holes in the wall from removed fixtures and a hand-cut blind to go around the door. It also smelled like a pool area since it was right by the pool. The faucet in the bathroom felt like it would pull out of the wall, and our room was constantly filled with the sounds of the highway. About that pool—it was so cloudy, nothing could be seen through the water and it was quickly drained for some sort of repairs. The front desk clerk was friendly and apologetic when we asked about a different room, but having a nicer, or just cleaner room would’ve been appreciated.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff, the room was nice and clean, laundromat was very clean and easy to use.
- 3.5/5
The staff was very nice. They offer delicious chocolate chip cookies anytime of the day, and gave us a water bottle when we checked out for the road. The bed was comfortable and the linens were cozy. The air conditioner was fantastic! Very important for August in Texas. The water pressure in the shower was unexpectedly good. For these reasons, I gave them an overall good rating. The property looked a bit, shabby and dirty. Plants in the atrium were dusty or dead, tiles were cracked and chipped throughout the building, and there was visible mold and water residue built-up in the bathtub. The rooms were dark and a bit rickety overall. It would be a good hotel for families because the entire hotel is one big playground. They close their atrium at 9 PM, but before that expect the sound of shrieking (albeit happy) children.
- 5/5
We had a small problem with our room but maintenance was there fast and very helpful.
- 5/5
Property is getting nicer every time I come love breakfast and Carl hospitality superb thanks
- 2/5
This hotel is OK but just OK and the rooms were kind of warm. The air conditioner didn’t work very good but they really over exaggerate the amenities on the website. For example, the mini golf course that they have is four holes that go around a fountain. There are no signs at all that tell you how to get to your room and the girl wasn’t all that friendly about directing me to my room. It would be a good hotel for families because they do have a pretty big area that kids can run around and stuff but just keep in mind while it’s an average hotel they definitely bulk it up on the website so just know it’s gonna be a little less than you expect. Also had a pretty rough experience with the restaurant waited over 30 minutes for my food and when I asked about it, they they explained that the burger was overcooked so they wanted to make my order again. As someone who has worked in the restaurant business quite frequently there was just a delay for whatever reason and they didn’t wanna admit it. They did give us a free dessert but then, ironically, when I got back to the room, my burger was really dry and the french fries weren’t hot.
- 5/5
Great time this visit glad to come back
- 5/5
My wife and I absolutely loved our stay! The hotel was very clean, comfortable, and welcoming. The staff was friendly and helpful, and everything made our stay relaxing and enjoyable. We had a great experience and would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend!
- 4/5
When I was checking in, the clerk kindly offered a close first floor room. This was so helpful for these weary senior travelers!
- 5/5
Definitely will come back even though they are going through some revocation to make this place more attractive or up to par— give this place a chance — just a beautiful gem in Amarillo!
- 4/5
El hotel tiene potencial para que sea perfecto, solo mejorar la limpieza y el olor a humedad.
- 5/5
Would recommend!
- 5/5
Great place to stay when in Amarillo the place literally has everything you could ask for , I’ll be coming back for sure I loved my stay!
- 1/5
Our first room was next to the pool renovations & my family was awaken to saws & sander’s and a god awful amount of cement dust which caused us severe sore throats. WiFi didn’t work. The maintenance guy came walking right into our room when we were not properly dressed. We moved rooms & the WiFi was no better. We were promised it would be fixed. It never was. The pool was not able to be used the entire stay! The elevator didn’t work. 3rd floor with stairs! They seem to be trying to improve but that should reflect in the price AND customers should be told ahead of time!!

Chickened Fudhh
- 5/5
Large property lots to do and nice restaurant. The parking lot and stairs need some updating
- 4/5
Inside amenities were very cool, just wished they had more accessible hours. The rooms were mostly clean, could use more towels.
- 5/5
Wonderful stay
- 5/5
Super cute place with nice clean rooms, indoor pool, sitting areas, play areas for kids, typical hot breakfast, game room, and a restaurant with bar! Very cool place for a decent price!
- 4.5/5
Superb
- 4/5
The amenities were great and it was nice that we could just go downstairs with the kids for them to not just enjoy the pool but also the park, the koi fish, the breakfast with the cute dinosaur that our son loved, all without having to ever leave the property. The convenience alone was great and made for a more relaxing trip. By no fault of the owners or staff, the property is older, that is true- but that's not what we saw. We saw a thoughtful vision from people who wanted to create a whimsical place where families could make special memories with their children. That alone makes up for the chipped paint here and there. My wife and I also visited the bar briefly and it was so cute! Staff was friendly and the drink (Mexican candy shot) was delicious. We had a great time here and definitely recommend, especially for smaller children!
- 5/5
Great place to stay
- 5/5
Last minute find for me as we were leaving a bad hotel experience and needed to find something. Cactus Cove popped up and look fun and cute. It did not disappoint. Very unique, all inclusive hotel experience. Great atmosphere and design from the outside to the inside. Pool was great. Plenty of things to do inside the hotel. Great gift shop area. The attached restaurant was great. Staff was friendly and helpful. Whole family was happy with the accommodations and wished we were staying longer. Thanks for a great hotel experience.
- 4/5
Staff and family amenities were great perks! I like the idea of it all. So much for a family with young kids to do. The rooms however had like rusted, dirty-looking fixtures. Our bed sheets had some dark spots on them. It felt a little dirty but maybe more so like a fixer upper hotel. Staff was very helpful and friendly! So that was also a nice perk!
- 3/5
Surprisingly the room was a lot quieter than I expected being that they look over the play area for the kids in the pool. Would be nice if you had cable TV so we can watch local stations. Breakfast is the same as any other hotel breakfast. Wish you served bacon though. We will return there again. As I said, it was decent just not great.
- 1/5
After a long day of driving, we arrived late expecting what we had seen on Expedia, but it didn’t match the photos at all. Half of the hallways were missing carpet, the rooms looked like they were overdue for a refresh, the TV didn’t work, and the overall property just felt neglected. I don’t enjoy leaving negative reviews because I know hospitality is a tough business, but I also think it’s important to share an honest experience. Based on our stay, this isn’t a hotel I would recommend. Lesson learned—we’ll spend a little more and look a little closer next time.
- 4/5
Staff was great!! Super clean and fun place to stay. The restaurant there was amazing. Food was a 10/10! I would stay there again for sure
- 5/5
We had a great experience
- 2/5
The location was neat as far as a gift shop and activities to do at the location! The rooms were very outdated from the 70’s, black mold, no bathroom fans to help with the moisture, dresser drawer wouldn’t stay closed, plug in outlets didn’t want to keep cords in, nasty looking patch up jobs in the room, musty smell that was hard to breathe.
- 3/5
Old carpet dirty pool was not clean cloudy water. Bed was good. Broken roll-down blind playground needed some attention walls and ceiling not completely painted walls are falling down at plaster lines. Inside trees are dusty dieing
- 3/5
The room was pretty clean besides a few hairs immediately found in the bathroom by my child. The kids were excited about the arcade, pickleball, the games, and the pool. Unfortunately, almost all the games were not functioning in the arcade, they booked an outside Zumba class on the pickleball court for the entire night we stayed so they only got the play for about 15 minutes, the games didn't have all the pieces (no darts) or you had to "check them out" at the desk with your DL, then the pool closed at 9:00 which is understandable as most rooms are right next to the pool. However, after we were told they were closing it for the night and to leave by the staff, we left and a few minutes later other people were swimming. The attached restaurant and breakfast made up for the lost stars from the rest as dinner and breakfast was amazing the next morning.

Such a fun hotel

I entered the code. Nothing. Tried again. Nothing. Again. Still nothing. At this point I'm wondering why they decided door codes were a better idea than those little key cards every other hotel on Earth seems to have figured out. After about three minutes of punching in the code over and over, there was a loud BANG on the other side of the door followed by a woman yelling, "DO NOT COME IN HERE!" Back to the front desk. The clerk apologized and moved us to a room on the second floor. We hauled all our luggage down there only to discover.. the room hadn't even been cleaned yet. Back to the front desk... again. She finally gave us a third room on the opposite side of the hotel. By now it was almost 11:40 p.m., and after dragging our luggage all over the building, I felt like I had accidentally signed up for the Cactus Cove Fitness Challenge. Thankfully, Room 3 was actually vacant and clean. Success! Finally settled in to relax... only to discover the TV Wi-Fi to work. Unfortunately, the hotel's Wi-Fi seemed to be as real as the first two rooms. Three rooms, two luggage relocations, one angry stranger behind a locked door, no TV, and a very exhausted couple. Do not recommend
- 2.5/5
Location was good. Too dark!

Location was good. Too dark!
- 3/5
Great for families but not so much if you’re looking to relax. The bed was clean but the rooms are really run down. Mold sealed into the shower, broken tiles, old carpet that smells bad. No towels available after the first day and staff was rude about asking for more even though a sign literally says to ask staff for pool towels.
- 3/5
This property needs quite a bit of work. Mainly in the rooms/bathrooms. The showerhead was below my chin and I’m only 6‘1“. No fan in the bathroom, so there is mold and rust. Hole in the wall because there’s no doorstop. The outside face of the hotel room is glass, and our blinds were broken so they would not close. Very rundown property for the rooms. The common areas were geared towards kids, which was nice.
- 4/5
Super fun place to stay with kids! Lots to do inside the hotel.
- 4/5
Staff very service oriented The room carpet was wet and had humidity, they did change us the room but not as what we expected

If you’re an adult, you will find this place rundown and not the cleanest. But it would be cruel not to bring your children here because the pool and indoor playground and bouncy houses and fresh baked cookies at check-in are their dream come true.
- 2/5
Staff was friendly. Good breakfast. The rooms were not well maintained and dirty.
- 3/5
This motel was very clean and well maintained. My only complaint is that I felt almost like I was in a dungeon. We were on the basement floor which did have a window, but the entry way had black coverings on the windows and door and the bedroom window had black curtains.
- 2/5
Hotel feels like 1985. Lot's of broken things. Our room door looked like a junior high woodshop student repaired it. It worked one out of 5 times to open. Room smelled of too much glade air freshner. Ceiling was peeling. Window was broken. Soap dispenser broken. Lamps broken. Pretty much everything was broken. Hotel blasts country music in the common areas all day starting around 8am. You can hear it in the rooms. Elevator broken. Several hallways missing carpet.... like someone just ripped it out. There was a Roomba roaming the halls at night? Vending machines broken. Ice machine broken.
- 4/5
Pros- Location was great, parking felt safe. Located right off of i40, everything felt convenient to get to. Restaurant/bar/music venue was awesome. Tip- You can get to-go drinks for the room (sealed). Enjoyed the band on Saturday night! Staff was so happy and helpful. Room was very spacious and clean. Bed/bedding very, very comfortable! Room stayed nice and cold. Cons- Still a little bit of a work in progress, it seemed.. Back area of the hotel still undone/being tweaked/needing tidied (no construction/noise, though!). Stayed in Suite 603.. Definitely not noise proof, so Friday night we weren't able to fall asleep until after midnight due to music venue downstairs. This is also the closest rooms to the music venue, so just request a room that doesnt join that wall. We said, "If we can't beat em, join em!" and enjoyed the music Saturday night. No window/alarm clock kind of threw us off in the mornings, but not a huge deal. Toilet seat was annoying and slid around all over the place LOL. Held on by what seems like a weak magnet. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and everything they had to offer! Would return and refer!

Room is clean staff is friendly breakfast is good

Hotel was terrible!!!!
- 4/5
We really enjoyed the vibe of the hotel, the bar and all the quirky features and games around. Some areas looked a little unfinished like the 3rd floor carpet and the games room. Clear instructions for the coffee machine would also be good.
- 4/5
It was a nice place to stay
- 2.5/5
The concept of the hotel is great. There’s lots to do with families with kiddos. Indoor pool, koi pond fountain, slides and bouncy castles. I liked that it was pet friendly. The room was nicely appointed. They put us on the third floor even though they knew we had pets. Finding the correct way in besides the very front door was also difficult. Contact free check in didn’t work. It’s TOO focused on kids and half of the hotel is still under construction. The whole place smells like chlorine. The AC has not been redone with the renovation and the rooms get stuffy. Bathrooms leave a lot to desire as well.

The only thing I would probably change is the temperature runs a little warmer, even when you've adjusted the thermostat, but I don't know if that's a maintenance situation they're already fixing or not. Oh, and the hose next to the stairs at the pool was a little "interesting" visually. All that to say, such a gem in the middle of the desert!
- 4/5
Our room was a little run down. Outlets didn't hold plugs well and many noticable patches on the walls. Bathtub was in need of replacement as well. Said to be 1 of the last to get remodeled.
- 5/5
It was great even though they were doing renovations it didn't effect our stay at all.
- 5/5
It was a very enjoyable stay.
- 5/5
Great staff
- 4/5
Very good
- 3/5
Our trip was not the greatest, The staff was fantastic and very helpful. But to there was major construction going on with what looked to me like a major remodel and there was lots of worker around doing ceilings and causing quite a bit of dust at our end of the hotel. I would not rule it out and willing to give it another try as the remodel will make great changes to the property.
- 3/5
Positives are it is clean and quiet surprisingly with your doors facing the courtyard. It was nice to have a bar but options were limited. Pool was closed though it said nothing about it online. Woman at the desk was overwhelmed through no fault of her own she had several people asking her for help at once. They were doing maintenance on it which was nice and the workers were very nice however one elevator didn’t work. The lights in the room had to be unplugged, many of the arcade games were out of order, and there are signs around the parking lot from the police dept stating to keep doors locked and no valuables in your cars. I would suggest to only stay here if you want to have your kids preoccupied as many adults didn’t watch them. If you don’t have kids for the money choose somewhere else because for the price it isn’t worth all that money.
- 5/5
Breakfast was great! Thanks Dina!
- 5/5
It was a Great place all around.
- 1/5
The rooms are nothing like the ones pictured on the website. It is so loud, you can not rest. The bar music plays so loud until 2am. You can hear kids running and screaming outside the rooms. Air conditioning had air fresheners in the vents to hide the fact that the room smelled musty. Very disappointing after seeing how nice it looked on the website.
- 4/5
Ok
- 3/5
Our bathroom was crazy. 1st the sink handle was so loose you can’t change water temperature. 2nd the bath spigot is about ready to fall off it’s also disconnected. 3rd the toilet is also disconnected. There is a leak at the bottom in the floor. Black mold around the tub. 4th the door actually makes a very loud sound when opened. Don’t worry about closing- it won’t. Overall I would not recommend based on my experience. Hopefully other rooms are trouble free. The children loved it.
- 3/5
Here are the positives: The staff were very kind and helpful, that was not a problem. It did have great amenities, especially if you have children like a slide, game room, bar and restaurant all inside but none of that really mattered to us as a young couple. The artwork and decoration was very cool. The breakfast was also very nice! The negatives: The pool water was HOT and had a sign that said something along the lines of “Do not swim if you have had diarrhea in the past 2 weeks” which scared me to use it because obviously they needed to put that sign up after an incident. Yikes. The ceiling in our bathroom was chipping and pieces were all over the floor. The carpet was wet with humidity and cold from the AC. The roof in the hallway was partly spray painted in some parts and not in others. The hotel looked unfinished with a whole wing of it looking abandoned/under construction. I feel bad writing this because I’m usually a positive and glass half full person. If I came with kids, I think it would have been great and I could maybe ignore some of the other things. Very family friendly, I will say that!
- 5/5
Awesome place! Free breakfast with fun amities for the family. Cute gift shop, arcade, little bar/ place to eat, play area for kids, and an indoor heated pool. Love the outside murals!!!! Staff was very nice, would stay there again.
- 4/5
Make sure all amenities are available before booking.. the pool was down when we got there and that was a big seller for me when I was looking for room. So when getting there after booking to find out it wasn’t working was disappointing for my kid
- 1/5
The staff tried, but the hotel is not ready for prime time! It looked closed from the outside, and there are signs every few posts in the parking lot that it is basically unsafe out there. The hotel is built around a worn down kid area, and the pool was closed for 3 days for 'maintenance', it looked like more than that when we walked by ... There was a lot going on 'maintenance' wise elsewhere too. We were put into a suite, where my husband immediately said, it looks they threw the furniture in, the cable and WiFi didn't work, then when we decided to go in the bedroom to just relax, there were pubic hairs on the sheet, and music started up in the restaurant below us. When I called to get new room, we were given the room directly below us - I told her that I would prefer to be moved away from the music, it was 8:30 PM, and she said that usually it stops about 10 PM. We decided to leave, booked a room at the 4 Points (highly recommend), and got outta there ASAP. They were cool enough to refund our money for the stay. They have a long way to go before they are ready for guests here, and I would only recommend if you want a kids playground close to your hotel room.
- 5/5
Liked the whole time The food is amazing in the restaurant The bar was great Staff in the bar and motel was great
- 3/5
Our main issue was that the listed photos weren’t accurate to the room. There were broken tiles on the walls in the shower with big holes between the grout repairs. The paint was peeling off the ceiling and there were small bugs. The pool was under construction which is not a big deal. Maybe it would have been different if we booked the deluxe room instead of the comfort room. It did seem like they were upgrading parts of the hotel so maybe not all of the rooms are like this.

LOVED this hotel. BREAKFAST BY Dina was Excellent ❤️
- 4/5
Very good
- 4.5/5
The breakfast was good and Dina as very kind to my granddaughter. The staff was all very present and accomodating. There was a group of preteen-teenager kids that were running around and appeared to not have any adult supervision. They were playing in the jumpy with wet swimsuits and very inappropriate. My 7 year old granddaughter had to get out several time because in there words "they weren't following the rules that they should be old enought to read".
