The hotel receives mixed reviews with guests appreciating the cleanliness, comfortable beds, friendly staff, and good location. However, there are consistent complaints about the shower, hot tub, and breakfast area congestion. Some guests also mention issues with room cleaning and maintenance.
- Clean and comfortable rooms
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Shower issues, including water temperature and pressure
- Hot tub frequently out of order or closed

Good location for heading south to Lubbock next day. Very nice room.
- 4/5
The bathroom keys were slightly rusty, but the room was clean and the beds comfortable
- 3/5
It was okay the only thing was a issue was that there was no towels and that you could not watch TV just select channels. I have never been to a Hawthorne hotel that had select channels. I wish they would have told me it was under construction. I think it should have been discontinued a little bit due to all that but I know next time. Front desk and the people was amazing
- 4/5
Breakfast - same quality
- 3/5
I wasn’t aware of all the construction going on and the change in hotel franchises
- 2/5
Shower was broken, rooms are very old and some renovation is going on.Breakfast is also poor. Find a better property
- 5/5
The hotel is under renovations and the hotel sign is not easy to find but all else was good.
- 1/5
Definitely was not as advertised actually looked like the place was being torn down. Three guys standing by the front door smoking marijuana had my small granddaughter . I felt it unsafe so I booked another room somewhere else. So I was very disappointed and I thought it was really false advertising because this place was horrible.
- 1.5/5
“ lipstick on a Pig” when you go cheap and not replace the air conditioner. Old unit that had us sweating all night!
- 3/5
1st front lady was rude, when I went to my room ,room look nice, mattress not so good, restroom toilet was dirty, I ask lady on front if I can have something to clean toilet, she said ,no my staff already cleaned, she said toilet is stains it won't come of, but it was dirty, breakfast was great.
- 5/5
Staff wonderful! They are in middle of remodeling however everything was clean. Nice room.
- 1/5
The air conditioner was also dirty, with black buildup visible inside the unit, making it seem like it hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. Choosing this hotel was a mistake, and I would not recommend it based on the cleanliness and poor customer service.
- 3/5
Was very surprised to arrive to a hotel that was under such renovation, pool was closed. Am still uncertain if it’s a Hawthorne or a La Quinta, confusing signage/branding. Breakfast reviews were misleading, very bland, sausage very undercooked. Staff were so so at best.
- 5/5
Doin work on hotel but room was fabulous
- 2/5
This hotel was UNDER CONSTRUCTION! Pool was closed, laundry room was closed, currently no extra amenities at all! Also, the internet was sketchy & the toilet was not clean. The air conditioning took a WHILE to start working! Not impressed!!
- 2/5
You could also tell there was deep cleaning needed to be done on the bathroom floors.
- 2/5
It cooled the room very little. Was not adjustable. We didnt dare try the breakfast. Didn't want to risk it.
- 3/5
The place is being renovated into a LaQuinta. The two rooms we had were not super well maintained, but I suspect that will change post-remodel. The front desk staff that checked us in was not friendly or helpful. It was the worst check-in experience I have ever had
- 3/5
The hotel was in remodeling and the room was too hot.
- 3/5
This property is under construction and looked sketchy. There’s no signs of what hotel you’re at. Breakfast was decent. We arrived late but I think I saw a sign that the pool was not functional. Staff was friendly.
- 4/5
The hotel was under renovation at the time of our stay. I assume because of this, the property itself wasn't in the best of shape and the tv in our room wasn't able to pick up but a couple of channels. The room was in good shape, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was good and overall a nice stay. Would consider staying here again when the renovation is complete.
- 2/5
Third party should have let us know of this.
- 3/5
Breakfast was decent and room was decent. Staff at check in needs to learn customer service boarder line rude.
- 5/5
The hotel is currently being worked on, but we never came in contact with any of those areas. The room was clean, the staff was friendly and the breakfast was excellent. Two thumbs up.
- 5/5
Great
- 2/5
The floors and our room were filthy. Would never recommend it.
- 2/5
As of July 2026- there is no signage outside the hotel and no exterior lighting, causing the hotel to appear to be closed when we arrived for our stay. We thought GPS had led us to the wrong location initially. The sign on the front door warns you to be on the lookout for falling debris due to renovations at their front entrance. This seems like a huge liability risk. The mattress on the pullout sofa had in excess of 10 stained areas (some possibly rust from the sofa springs, others not identifiable). There was carpet in our room not tacked down which caused a tripping hazard. When my husband requested to speak with the manager the next morning to show her the multiple issues in our room, she was completely dismissive regarding all of the issues. Her solution to the mystery stains on the pullout couch was, “That is why we provide sheets to put over the mattress.“ This could be a reasonably nice hotel after all the renovations are complete however, at this time, save your money and save yourself lots of frustration. Stay somewhere else.
- 5/5
Property is being remodeled that could be considered an inconvenience but ovetall a good experience.
- 3/5
TV didn’t work. Reading light was burned out. There had been a smoke r in the room. It was not a relaxing stay.
- 5/5
Even though the hotel was being remodeled the rooms are extremely nice great and comfortable beds huge rooms
- 5/5
When I got there to check in it was around 11:00 pm I thought it was closed I wasn’t to comfortable it is a little dark but other than that everything was grate
- 2/5
Place in construction
- 1/5
A/C didn’t work and laundry and pool were closed with no warning
- 4/5
The facility is going through massive remodel. Looks like they just acquired the location. NO SIGNAGE OUTSIDE! I drove up and was soo confused. The name of the hotel is nowhere! There are shipping containers all over the parking lot. There were just a few vehicles in the parking lot, so I thought they were for workers. I called and was told it was the right place. My room had not been remodeled yet. It definitely needs it, but I’m sure it will happen. There was also a worker with a lift RIGHT outside my window. Pool/hot tub is closed. I used the treadmill and that was fine. Had I known it was such a mess and would have chosen a different location. Should be fine once work is done.
- 4/5
The room was okay.
- 2/5
Check in was easy, front desk clerk was nice. We had 3 three rooms for the night, and our room didn’t have a good working AC. I notified the front desk and she wasn’t able to move us due to them being full. She contacted the manager and we were told we could get a percentage back on the room if we stayed in it or squeeze into the other rooms with a full refund for our single room. We decided to stay in our room and just hooked up a fan we brought with us. The ac was so janky. The following morning we were told if we wanted any money back we would have to contact Expedia, instead of the manager honoring the percentage off. The hotel is under construction, which I didn’t realize that when I booked. The breakfast was good, and had a decent variety of things. The bathrooms looked dirty, not sure if that’s apart of their remodeling they’re working on. And the double bed rooms were very large. Overall I will not be back to that particular hotel.
- 0.5/5
Is not anything like photos. No pool, no breakfast, no hot water, noisy workers, dirty, unsafe feeling
- 1/5
Left to find another hotel and contacted Hotels.com to make them aware and let them know the room was unacceptable. It took quite some time to hear back. I sent pictures of the issues. I was denied a refund on $1000 hotel stay because the hotel manager didn't agree because the staff on site wasn't complained to before leaving. If that was the state of this room, I can't imagine any other rooms were actually well maintained, even if the issues were better hidden. Manager offered $40 back, I believe.
- 2/5
Parking lot full of equipment and storage containers - parking is a mess. Rooms are outdated and not maintained Beds are lumpy and very uncomfortable - A/C would never cool off and cycled constantly- very noisy. Phone had the message light flashing and after several attempts to contact front desk, I went down and asked her to clear it - her solution was just unplug it! I felt sorry I bothered her from her phone.. The cost difference did not make this property a good value - we will pay more next trip for a better hotel. One positive - the breakfast was good
- 1/5
Check-in took forever. They told us the virtual card payment from Expedia didn’t work and tried to charge me again for the stay! We knew there was construction but the rooms were not well-kept. The worst thing was when we took the stairs one night and saw the end door to the hotel is just propped open for construction (this was 10pm and no workers present). Absolutely zero protection for hotel guests! Would not recommend staying here!
- 5/5
The outside was all torn up with renovations but the inside made up for it. The pool was closed for repair. That’s why the amenities was rated low.
- 3/5
The listing looked really good, what they failed to mention is they are under construction and the pool was closed (disappointing for our kids)… when we arrived we couldn’t tell if the hotel was even open until we pulled up to the doors. The hotel sign and entrance signs were covered with black tarp. I saw a few bugs in the bathroom and the sink was being held up with some extra 2x4’s. We had booked the hotel for the next weekend, needless to say I canceled our 2nd reservation.
- 2/5
They are no longer Hawthorne but La Quinta. Also, the AC unit in ours did not cool our room. So, just know if you make a reservation here, nothing shows on the outside and it is a La Quinta now or shortly. Other than the AC and no knowing where we shoed up to, the breaksfast was good and the room was clean.
- 3/5
The hotel is under going a renovation. Staff was friendly and receptive. We couldn't tell if the hotel was open due to the renovation as we drove by. But other than that hotel was comfortable and quiet.
- 3/5
They are doing major reconstruction right now and there were containers everywhere. There were no working vending machines. However, the place was clean and quiet and should be nice when remodeling is finished.
- 2.5/5
This hotel is not worthy of a Hawthorn Suit name yet. It is under major renovation and most amenities are closed to include the pool, which is the main reason we picked them. Also there are not enough employees. No one was at front desk any time we need
- 3/5
Upgrading motel, but not our room and the price was not reduced. Tiny toilet,12" from seat to floor, no grab bars there nor in shower. Faucet sprayed everywhere if not kept on low. General manager greeted us, but not very friendly, just in a business matter-of-fact way. Couldn't access tv channels. All of this was unexpected and we had already begun unpacking, otherwise we could've requested another room. We've used this motel several times over the years, even under previous ownership, but never had this many disappointments.

good and clean room and property
- 3/5
When we arrived the front desk person was on what sounded like a personal call and advised she would have to call them back because she had to check someone in but she didn't greet us for a couple more minutes. When I came back out she was sitting on the couch in the lobby. Employees only acknowledged you when they absolutely had to and didn't seem very friendly. On the plus side, the beds were comfortable as was the sofa bed.
- 2/5
Sinks were gross. Remodel was painting over the back sheet rock and leaving the carpet stained. Tub in 108 would fill up above feet while showing. Clear skies during our stay and all the TV channels just loaded or were broken on DirectTV. Pool was down for maintenance and there was construction trash all over the parking lot. Price wasn't terrible for 5 people I guess if you are just sleeping.
- 3/5
They are currently remodeling so the pool and hot tub were inaccessible. The breakfast was limited no milk was available. Pillows need to really be replaced their horrible. The shower hose was something I remember from the it's. However it was quiet
- 2/5
The hotel staff were okay, but not super helpful. They were hardly at the desk and available. We had to leave early due to finding bed bugs in our bed. I also found evidence of bed bugs along the seams of the mattress. We have not been able to contact the property due to them not answering the phones. Overall was pretty disappointing.
- 3/5
The room was nice but the bathroom definitely needed to be updated. There was construction going on in other parts of the building so maybe they will eventually get to the rooms I had.
- 4/5
Front desk staff was not friendly and I had to call out for them to come out of the back room. Also, I feel the hotel should have had some kind of notice that they are remodeling and renaming the hotel.
- 2/5
Customer service at front desk was horribly rude and very unwelcoming upon check in. Property under construction and materials stacked all over the inside and outside of property.
- 1/5
The clerk behibd the counter acted as though we were an inconvenience. Because of the renovations, the pool and area were closed. Building materials were stacked all over the lobby and dining area. When we got to our "handicap accessible room", it was hot, the Air conditioner wasnt working and smelled like feet. Additionally, the restroom lighting was very dim and where there was supposed to be a shower, there was a tub (I have lower extremity issues, so stepping into a tub is very difficult and dangerous, hence the reason for reserving a handicap accessible room). I called the front desk and was told that all of the other rooms were booked and there was nothing they could do. I insisted they do something and the clerk said she could send maintenance up to check the A/C and for the smell in the room... I was able to get the A/C working after messing with it. There was some kind of electrical short in the switch. The maintenance guy came up and was very friendly. He said it really did smell like feet and sprayed something all around the room that immediately made it much more pleasant. I would definately not recommend this lodging for anyone!
- 5/5
Clean room, very friendly staff and breakfast included. Hotel currently under construction, but we were just passing through and needed a place to sleep and shower so didn’t bother us!
- 5/5
They were under construction and the pool wasn't working. But everything else other than that was okay
- 2/5
Poor breakfast, hotel was under renovation, was not clean
- 2/5
Hotel was under major construction which wasn’t shared when reservation was made.
- 3/5
Wish renovation in progress would be mentioned before we booked. Several containers in front parking. Nails in driveway.

Clean room fresh breakfast friendly staff
- 3/5
We had two rooms booked, one of the rooms had been previously smoked in and cleaned or hadn’t had the filters changed in the air conditioning unit. I am extremely allergic to cigarette smoke so that room had to be changed out. Overall the breakfast area was mostly clean, with very standard fare. If there had been any other hotels on that side of Amarillo that had rooms open, we would have changed hotels. We will give it a year or more before checking with them again.
- 1/5
What made the experience worse was the attitude of the staff. There was no empathy, no welcoming smile, and our concerns were met with an unhelpful response that no other rooms were available. As older guests, we expected at least some understanding and courtesy. From the reactions of other guests during our stay, it seemed that we were not the only ones dissatisfied. Unfortunately, this was a very unpleasant experience, and I hope management takes immediate steps to improve cleanliness, maintenance, and customer service.
- 2/5
The bathroom was not clean and we decided to not shower there. The building is under renovations so maybe it will get better
- 2/5
Don't trust the rating. The rooms are smelly and dirty. We were trying to switch to a different room/facility, but because we arrived later in the day, none of these was possible. We never come again.
- 2/5
Hotel was under construction - didn't even look opened. The light in the bathroom didn’t work and they had no room to switch us to nor were they able to get maintenence staff to fix.
- 4/5
The room is ok for the price, it not new as picture look and not that clean.
- 1/5
DO NOT Stay here right now. Major construction going on. The sign from the freeway is blacked out. You don’t see it coming around the back way and by then it’s too late. Trash everywhere, signs that say WATCH FOR FALLING Debris. I called immediately to cancel.
- 5/5
Room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was great, property is under renovation but still very comfortable. Only issue was finding a front desk person to check in and out.
- 1/5
at check in, my room was super humid and warm. the desk clerk tried her absolute best to fix the ac. moving rooms was not an obtion. i already was in the room. my shower temp was luke warm and NEVER got hotter. the fridge was not cold and NEVER got colder. the ice maker was blocked by 4 pallets of parts/fixtures/equipment for their remodel. meaning the whole hotel couldn’t utilize it. i am a diabetic and had to drive to a convenience store to handle that serious issue. to top it off, after i drove to get dinner, and had it open on the table, i walked away and upon coming back, there was a Fly on it. how was a fly in my room? the room never got cold and i slept terribly. extremely dissatisfied and disappointed. i will never stay at a Hawthorn facility again.
- 4/5
The property was undergoing Construction. The pool was closed. There was Construction throughout the hotel.
- 1/5
Hotel was under refurbishment, about five years too late. But they had no problem charging $138 for a single night. Bathroom was nasty and terrible. Drapes were not usable, could not close. Draw-wands broken and laying on floor. Drapes blocked AC unit. Breakfast was terrible. I’ll never stop here again
- 2/5
I understand the hotel is under construction but our bathroom was dirty, the ice machine didn’t work, and the whole building just felt dirty.
- 3/5
Checkin staff was not overly friendly. Bed was not comfortable and pillows were small and not great. Went to breakfast right at 6am and coffee was barely warm.
- 4/5
Overall the hotel was ok as per the budget category and served the purpose well for our overnight stay for a long journey. Rooms were clean breakfast was ok.
- 5/5
upgrade so there was some boxes & pallets of things, but they were never in our way. The room was nice & comfortable. The A/C was so cold, just like I like it. Super convenient to the highway & major shopping & food. Would definitely stay here again.
- 3/5
The staff was polite thou.
- 3/5
Great staff. Nice location. The tv never worked and the WiFi had a very low signal. My only complaints. Otherwise it was clean and quiet.
- 0.5/5
Checked into a room that the AC didnt work, was dirty and beds weren't made, and refused to.give us a different room
- 5/5
Loved the stay and the staff good breakfast and great hotel even with them under construction.
- 2/5
They had pallets of materials stored in the hallways inside the hotel
- 3/5
Additionally, the outside was being renovated, and there was no sign anywhere saying which hotel it was so we weren’t really even sure until we walked inside if we were at the right hotel. Overall the beds were comfortable, and the breakfast was just fine if not amazing. The staff were competent and did their jobs well, but without being super friendly. It wasn’t a bad hotel, but I wouldn’t choose it again the next time I was going through town.
- 4/5
Property seems to be under maintenance. Some lights in the room wasn’t working. Was able to hear next room conversation
- 1/5
The entire room (including washroom) was not at all clean. Not much options in breakfast. Seems some renovation work is in progress
- 4/5
The light in the bathroom was extremely dim, in order to see we had to turn on the "heat lamp".
- 4/5
Building is under reconstruction, piles of materials lying in lobby area. To get to the ice machine requires climbing through pallets. Matter of time before someone trips and sues. Breakfast was lacking gluten free items. Room was clean, bed was comfy. Staff was very helpful.
- 5/5
Only thing was there was no pool
- 1/5
I have no good things to report on during our stay.
- 4/5
The remodeling was distracting, but the breakfast was good and the employees helpful and pleasant.
- 1/5
This hotel was listed as no pets allowed which is important as I’m extremely allergic. Upon check in they notify they are pet friendly. Not only is this extremely aggravating and false advertising it is also dangerous. They found a room that had no history of pets for the past week and I was able to stay for the one night. Although I did have mild allergic reactions. Additionally the hotel is going through renovations. There was no name on the front of the hotel, there is debris everywhere and our room was shabby. Dirty curtains, stains on the carpet, molding coming off the walls and rust stains around the toilet and dark stains inside. The staff member who checked us in was rude with an attitude that we were bothering her for checking in. We will not be staying with this company again.
- 3/5
The hotel was being renovated during our stay. When we went to check in, we went to the property address and didn't think they were open because there were no signs. No signs for the hotel, no signs on the street and the parking lot was full of construction equipment. I called the reservation line because I was confused and the agent said, "Wer'e open, we're just under renovation right now." The room was very nice and clean, the bathroom wasn't dirty, but definitely showed it's signs of age. While on the property we unfortunately ended with a nail in our tire.
- 4/5
There is a lot of construction and renovation going on with this property right now. It isn't really fair to review it at this point. Our room was comfortable and the room was clean. The breakfast was adequate and the staff was friendly. However, there was a lot of mess in the hallways and common areas as the construction & renovation is going on. The property really needs this upgrade so we are happy that it is happening!
- 5/5
The hotel was very comfortable. Check in was easy and fast. There was plenty of parking.
- 5/5
Even though under construction for remodeling, the stay was quiet and comfortable. One of the cleaning ladies crawled between stacks of materials to fill my ice bucket. Will always stay here when I come visit my son!
- 3/5
Property was under major construction. Breakfast was great. Lobby was cluttered, our room wasn't very clean. Fridge didn't work. AC didn't work.
- 3/5
This is an older hotel. There is some remodeling happening.
- 1/5
I would like a refund issued for my stay.
- 2/5
Friendly helpful front desk staff. Property under renovation and should not be open or advertised as "very good". The room I stayed in was in poor condition. Tub shower did not drain, sink faucet crappy, mattress was garbage and very sunken. Terrible accommodation!
- 4/5
Room was nice a Lil small but had all we needed in there. Bed was comfortable.
- 3/5
Friendly staff, room was a good size. Hotel is currently under renovations and sign was not up so it was a little difficult to tell if we were in the right place. Lots of construction materials and dust throughout hallways. Something slimy had been spilled on the carpet in our room that house keeping apparently missed other than that, room was relatively clean. Once renovations are completed and construction dust is cleaned up, it will likely be a very nice hotel.

Nobody said anything about the pool being closed when I asked hours. We went to swim and all of a sudden they said it was closed. They didn’t offer anything to make it better. We went to watch TV instead and the TV didn’t work. My kids were disappointed

The elevator didn’t work.

The night shift front desk staff was inattentive. They did not wear any identifying clothing that suggested they worked there. Street clothing was very casual on that shift. Day and afternoon front desk staff were dressed smartly and professional.
